French women just seem to have this effortless beauty, a je ne sais quoi that means they always look fresh and radiant. Steal some of their secrets with these French beauty brands you’ll fall in love with; some you may be familiar with and a few I know you won’t be able to wait to discover.
When it comes to haircare, Kérastase is a brand that’s always top of mind. Salon quality products designed to target different needs & issues mean your hair is taken care of in luxurious fashion. To make things easy, their diagnostic tool will help you find the products you should be using for your healthiest hair.
Masks have always been a big part of my beauty routine. I couldn’t even tell you the number of masks I’ve tried over the years – all I know is that they’re perfect for when my skin needs to detox or is ready for a pick me up. They’re relaxing, gratifying and help to bring the spa home for those times when I just need to chill.
Lately, I’ve been really into the multi-masking trend. What’s that? Using 2 or more different facial masks on different areas of the face to target the skin’s different needs. Sure, there are times when one mask takes care of the needs of your entire face, but there are definitely others where different parts of your face have needs that that a one-size-fits-all mask can’t hit. Combination skin, for example, doesn’t necessarily require the same care for all areas; an oily t-zone and dehydrated cheeks, for obvious reasons, require different attention.
Multi-masking helps to take care of the problem that arises when the different areas of your face require different care. By specifically targeting the needs of certain areas with masks that were designed for these, you’re giving your face exactly what it needs. The best part? You can do all of this at the same time – take a look at the face charts that Vichy created below for a few examples of how you can use multi-masking to your advantage to get the results that you need.
Lately, I’ve been using three Vichy facial masks for my multi-masking needs:
The Vichy Quenching Mineral Mask, a gel mask that helps to restore much needed moisture to dry skin
The Vichy Pore-Purifying Mask, which contains Kaolin and Betonite for the removal of impurities
The Vichy Double-Peeling Mask, which exfoliates and brightens with fruit acids and vitamin C
Vichy Double-Peeling Mask, Pore-Purifying Mask & Quenching Mineral Mask
What’s been working for me? The all-in-one skin refresher has been perfect for my skin as of late. The summer weather has been playing around with my skin a little, leaving my T-zone shinier and oilier than normal, and with my work hours I’ve definitely noticed some dullness. I’ve been using the Pore-Purifying Mask on my T-zone to help fight back against small breakouts and to tighten the skin in that area (see ya never, shine). I also apply this around the sides of the mouth – you can definitely play around with where you use the masks based on what your skin needs!
A little hard to see because of the gel masks, but I’m rocking the all-in-one
I also use the Double-Peeling Mask on my forehead to exfoliate and brighten this skin, and the Quenching Mineral Mask on my cheeks as they tend to be a little more on the dry side. Again, take a look at your skin and what it needs and use that as a guide when deciding which type of face mask to use on the different areas.
What kind of masks would you use on your face?

GUYS! It’s officially spring, which makes me one happy lil’ chicky. Granted, the weather may not be caught up as of yet (we’ve got freezing rain & negative temperatures on deck in Toronto), but this doesn’t mean that we can’t start getting into spring beauty. I’m all set to start giving myself a boost and I’ve pulled together some products that are sure to get you feeling warm and glowy so you can shake off winter.
Kérastase PARIS Fondant Densité ($49 CAD) – I’ll be honest, during the winter months I don’t pay as much attention to my hair. It’s dry, there’s a ton of static going around, and I feel like when I do style it, it just tends to fall flat. This rinse out treatment is great for fine or thin hair that needs a little somethin’, with hyaluronic acid and intra-cylane to help plumpify and strengthen the hair.
The Body Shop Drops of Light Pure Healthy Brightening Serum ($38 CAD) – Need a skin boost? This lightweight serum might be just what you need. It’s fast absorbing, smells great, and promises to reduce dark spots. You’ll immediately notice an improvement in hydration, and healthier, more toned skin will be yours after continued use.
Formula X x Cupcakes and Cashmere polishes ($16 CAD ea) – This month’s Color Curators collection by Formula X features three polishes created in collaboration with Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere. Peach Tea and Latte Run, shown here, are absolutely perfect for spring with their delicate tones!
MAC Powder Blush in Let’s Be Friends ($26 CAD) – Your cheeks are going to fall for this hot pink blush from the Flamingo Park collection. This satin brush gives off a killer pop of colour that will have you feeling the warmth in no time.
Vichy Idéalia Day Care Smoothing and Illuminating Cream ($45 CAD) – Dull skin will find a friend in this new cream from Vichy, which helped to improve radiance and skin texture while reducing the look of fine lines and pores. Natural antioxidants help to fight back against the first signs of aging so your skin will be looking perky and fresh for spring.
Benefit Dandelion Shy Beam ($34 CAD) – When you’re ready to restore a little life to your face, this nude pink highlighter is going to become a welcome addition to your makeup bag. This matte highlighter helps to add a pretty pink glow – dab it on your cheek & brow bones and blend in for a natural look that instantly brightens your face!
Mèreadesso Beautiful Body Balm ($54 CAD) – Now that you’re looking good up top, it’s time to give your body a little love. This non-greasy lotion helps to tone the skin (because we all know bathing suit season is just around the corner) and helps with stretch marks & scarring with a blend of 8 vitamins and minerals.
I’m all set to get spring ready – are you? What products are you using to brighten up after the winter?

Who doesn’t love spending a day on the beach? Warm sun, soft sand and rolling waves make for the perfect spot to relax on a beautiful summer day. I’ve been pretty busy lately but have been able to to get down to the beach a few times.
When spending time at the beach you definitely need to be prepared. I’ve put together some of my beach mag must-haves to help you decide what you need to bring along with you for a day in the sun. What are your beach day essentials?
I’m going to start by saying sun protect is an absolute must when you are spending a day in the sun. By now, I’m sure we all know about the dangers of prolonged sun exposure. Make sure you stock up on sunscreen to make sure your skin is protected during a long day on the beach. Right now, I’m really loving Vichy Capital Soleil Invisible Mist (SPF 50) The spray format makes it easy to hit every part of your body when you don’t have anyone around to help you get those hard to reach places. For the face, I prefer something a bit lighter and non-greasy. Vichy Aqualia Thermal UV Hydrating Treatment (SPF 15) and Skinceuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense (SPF 50) are perfect for this, providing more lightweight facial protection. And of course, you can’t forget about the little ones… Garnier Ombrelle Kids Mineral Lotion (SPF 50+) makes sure their little bodies are safe from the sun – not to mention you can definitely use this on yourself!
Of course, while we like to stay protected from the sun, there’s nothing wrong with giving yourself a bit of a glow. Keep your tan looking great longer with the Jergens Natural Glow Tan Extender. Moisturizing extends the life of a tan, and it even helps to add a bit of colour to your skin – but not enough that you have to worry about staining or streaking! For the face, the Vita Liberata Trystal Minerals Self Tanning Bronzing Minerals is the bomb. Since it is a bronzer, it gives the face an automatically golden look once it’s been buffed on… But the best part is that the powder acts as a self tanner that is activated by your moisturizer or foundation, so a glow develops while you wear it! Of course, now that your beautiful and bronzed, you can perk up your look with a killer nail polish, like the fun Ceramic Glaze polishespictured above.
Don’t forget about your hair! If you’re going to be splashing around in the pool or in the lake/beach, bring along a leave-in treatment like the Dessange Paris Oleo Miracle Replenishing Oil. Once you get out of the water (and before you jump in if you remember!) apply some throughout your mane to lock in moisture and prevent chlorine from drying your hair or helping colour to fade more quickly. I also love to bring along a salt spray, like the John Frieda Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray (and no, you don’t have to be a blonde to love & use this one!). I spritz some in my hair, scrunch it up and let it air dry for a wavy look without the fuss! Bonus – this one smells like coconuts. Love!
What do you like to throw in your bag for a day at the beach?
For me, sun protection is one of the things that first comes to mind when it’s time to get ready for a vacation. As a naturally pale gal, I have a tendency to burn easily and make it a priority to protect myself from too much sun exposure. My family also has a history of skin cancer, so it’s extremely important to me to be safe to prevent any future scares. That and I’m not a big fan of premature aging. I’ve rounded up some great sun protection products to help you make it through the summer. And make sure you check out some of the sun safe tips I shared last summer to make the most of them.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Lotion, SPF 60 ($29.95) – Extremely lightweight, this is perfect for facial application. 60 SPF ensures your face will be kept safe while you spend a few hours in the sun. Non greasy which is extremely important to me in a facial sunscreen.
L’Oreal Paris Silky Sheer BB Face Lotion, SPF 50 ($14.99 – also available in a non-tinted version) – Ooh, how exciting. This tinted facial sunscreen makes it easier than ever to wear as it helps to even out the skintone. It gives just a hint of colour and has a really nice texture/finish. Non-greasy and water resistant.
Cyberderm H2O Hydration ($60.00) – This is the perfect accompaniment to a little sun exposure. Meant to have the same benefits as drinking 300 glasses of water, this olive oil based moisturizer is perfect for restoring your skin’s natural moisture and replenishing it.
Vichy Capital Soleil Invisible Mist, SPF 30 ($29.95) – This mist, which provides UVA/UVB protection, is great for anyone – even those with sensitive skin. It dries extremely quickly and dare I say it even smells nice??
Garnier Ombrelle Dry Mist, SPF 60 – Get the ultimate in protection with this high strength sunscreen spray. It’s easy to apply and perfect for those days when you know you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the sun. It’s also alcohol free, so no worries about it drying out your skin.
L’Oreal Paris Silky Sheer Lotion, SPF 50 ($14.99) – For those who prefer the more traditional route to sunscreen and enjoy a lotion, this lightweight version is a must. It packs a ton of protection and contains Vitamin E for 8 hours of hydration. It also has a very pleasant smell!
Cyberderm Simply Zinc Sun Whip, SPF 30 ($38.00) – Although a little thicker than the L’Oreal Paris Lotion, this whip absorbs quickly and blends in easily for solid protection. I really like the fact that it has an olive oil base – you can feel the effects of this as soon as you apply and it provides great moisture.
L’Oreal Paris Invisible Protect Dry Oil Spray, SPF 30 ($14.99) – Ooh my, does this stuff ever smell delicious. Ideal for those who like to lounge by the pool, this dry oil will give you a gorgeous sheen wile still helping to block out the sun’s rays.
What kind of sun protection do you like to use? What is your favourite brand?
