Is there anything better than a getaway with some of your best girlfriends? Maybe, if it includes a stay at a spa like the one we had a few weeks back. A few of my fave blogger babes (Jenelle, Sandra, Zeba & Eleni) took a trip up to Ste Anne’s Spa in Grafton, Ontario, for a luxurious and relaxing overnight stay. Take a look:

We were treated like queens during our entire stay – the staff at Ste Anne’s Spa is always ready to help and very attentive, the food was delicious, and the spa treatments are to die for. I enjoyed the contouring mud stone wrap, which was a combination of a little bit of everything – hot stone massage, mud wrap and foot/scalp/chest massage. We also spent a lot of time in the outdoor pools and the eucalyptus steam room. The spa is gorgeous and the facilities are really well cared for. They even have snack & drink stations set up to replenish yourself during your stay.

During our visit, we stayed in one of Ste Anne’s beautiful cottages, Vista Lago. The place was beautiful and sleeps 4-8 people comfortably, with 4 bedrooms (2 king beds, 2 queens), a beautiful living room, kitchen and hot tub. It even included a conference room, making this a great option for a work retreat. Our cottage was a quick 5 minute drive from the spa, and they have a shuttle service available to take you back and forth if needed.

Another thing I have to touch on is the food. We were able to enjoy high tea, breakfast and lunch at the on-site restaurant, and everything was fantastic. They had delicious menu options which we all enjoyed, and they were extremely accommodating of the dietary restrictions that we had in our group (think gluten-free, nut allergies and vegetarian options). The best part of it all had to be the private chef meal that we enjoyed in our cottage on our first day. Is there anything better than sipping wine with your friends and staying cozy in your pyjamas while someone else cooks for you? I don’t think so.

Overall, we had an amazing time at Ste Anne’s Spa and I will definitely be going back. I think this would be perfect for a bachelorette or birthday party with a group of friends who want to relax and unwind, or a getaway with that special someone. Have you ever been to Ste Anne’s Spa?

Winter is definitely a great time to recharge your batteries and to take a little me time. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I’ve definitely been experiencing a bit of the winter blues lately, and I knew that taking a step back to focus on me would be a great way to get myself ready to go for 2018. My boyfriend, Mickey, and I took a trip up to Collingwood, Ontario earlier this month to celebrate his birthday, and I knew that we had to pay a visit to the Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain while we were there. I’ve heard so many good things about this type of experience and this particular spa from a few friends and couldn’t wait to give it a try.

The Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain is located just a few minutes away from the Blue Mountain Resort, and is only 2 hours north of Toronto, making it the perfect place to visit when you want to get away for a night. It’s set in 25 acres of natural forest, and the location is absolutely beautiful. From the moment you enter the driveway you’re whisked away to a serene, calm setting where you know you’ll be able to relax. Upon arrival, you’re checked in, given an overview of how the baths work, and handed 2 towels & a locker key to store your belongings. Robes are also available for rental, which I highly suggest. Phones are not allowed in the baths area and silence is requested – there are staff members on hand keeping an eye on everything to ensure that chatting is kept to a low murmur so you can enjoy the silence and fully relax.

The bath circuit has been set up to allow your body to relax and rejuvenate; you first begin the cycle in one of the hot areas for 10-15 minutes (hot bath, sauna or steam room) to detoxify and open your pores, followed by a cold water plunge (brrr!) for 2 seconds to a maximum of 2 minutes to close the pores before finishing the cycle with a 10-15 minute relaxation period in one of the solariums or by the fire to bring your body back to a normal resting state. You can repeat this cycle several times, with most people staying about 2-3 hours in the baths. I ended up going through the cycle 5 times during our visit and couldn’t believe how great I felt afterwards. My mind was clear, my body felt great and I left feeling completely refreshed. Massages are also available to be booked and are a great way to start your visit off – I think I’ll be giving one a try next time!

I just want to touch on the hot portion of the bath circuit, because this was easily my favourite. They have three heated pools to hang out in (which were delightful), a recently-updated Finnish sauna, a brand new infrared sauna and my favourite, the Norwegian steam bath. The steam bath, which uses eucalyptus, was so lovely. When you walk in the room, it’s full of steam & a little hard to see, but your eyes quickly adjust and you can grab a seat (note: the steam is definitely heavier on the top row of seating, so it’s best to start on the middle or first row when you first go in) and start taking it all in. It really hits you when you get in, and you’re soon sweating and breathing in the steam – it feels like an amazing detox session and I ended up going in twice because I loved it so much. I want one in my house!

The Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain is especially breathtaking in the winter when it’s covered in snow. The setting is so beautiful and I could have stayed all day. I’ll definitely be returning in the summer when my mom comes home for a visit and can’t wait to experience is then as well!

Tips to make your visit to the Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain more enjoyable:

  • Eat beforehand and stay hydrated throughout your visit. You’ll be detoxing and putting your body through the cycle a few times, so make sure that you’re drinking water. Bring a water bottle and fill it up using the refill stations throughout the baths area.
  • Bring along a book for the relaxation portion. You’ll be sitting in a solarium for 10-15 minutes every cycle, and if you have a book you’ve been meaning to read, this would be a great time to get into it.
  • Bring a robe or rent one. Especially in the winter, you’ll want to throw one on in between the portions of the cycle.
  • Leave one towel in your locker for afterwards. You’ll want to have a dry one ready for a shower after you finish.
  • Bring a pair of sandals to throw on when you walk between the hot/cold/relaxation portions – the ground gets cold in the winter!
  • Get there early. During the winter, holidays & weekends, the spa gets extremely busy and ends up going on a waitlist. Getting there early enough means you’ll have a better chance at getting in. If you do end up on the waitlist though, don’t worry! They’ll call you when you’re able to get in and the Blue Mountain Village is right around the corner so you can find something to do.
  • If you’re planning on getting a massage, book early! The massages book up pretty quickly, especially around busy times of the year – you can book them months in advance, so if you have a trip planned, make sure you lock yours down.

Last weekend I set out on an adventure with my friend Jenelle (check out her recap here) and the guys (who, thank god, are more than happy to take pictures for us when it means they get to do something fun) for a weekend of “camping” and amusement park fun. The destination? Darien Lake, a theme park and campground located just outside of Buffalo.

This park holds a lot of memories and nostalgia for me. From the time I was about 5 until I was 19, my parents rounded my brothers and I up every summer for a few days where we could enjoy the rides and my parents could have a good time. We were often accompanied by other friends or family members, which meant a good time was always had.

This year, we decided to give Darien Lake another try. It’s been about ten years since my last visit, and I couldn’t wait to go down to relive the fun, see what had changed, and what has stayed the same. We headed down on Friday evening in this killer Chevrolet Tahoe (which might have to be my next ride) which was unbelievable. It was huge, which meant we had tons of room for everything we brought down, and some amazing features that were definitely well used (Apple Carplay, in-car wifi).

via GIPHY

While Darien Lake does offer a campground for those who want to “rough it”, they also offer trailer rentals, a full hotel, and, most recently, glamping and cabin rentals. We were able to spend a couple of nights in one of these new cabins and it was absolutely perfect! It sleeps 6 comfortable, with two bedrooms, a sitting area with pull out futon and all of the amenities you could need. We loved the covered porch (it did rain a bit) and the fire pit area was definitely taken advantage of.

When it comes to the park, it was exactly as I remembered it! Of course, a few things have changed. There were a few new rides that weren’t there when I used to go, and most of the old ones that I loved were still running. We made it through almost all of the roller coasters (Boomerang was down for maintenance when we stopped by on the last day which just means we have to go back next year) and some of the more tame rides. We didn’t have a chance to check the water park out because we got rained out when we were planning on going, but the  newer slides and rides looked like so much fun. We also took a ride on the rather large ferris wheel that gave us an amazing view of the park.

Jenelle put together this fun video so you can get an even better idea of what our trip was like:

I think we’ve started a new tradition! I already can’t wait to go back next year – thanks again to Darien Lake for having us and to Chevrolet for providing such a killer ride.

Have you ever been to Darien Lake? What’s your favourite summer destination?

If you’re anything like me, you love exploring new places. And while we’re celebrating Canada 150 is there really any better excuse for getting out and discovering more of this great country? I decided to start local and spent some time in the Windsor – Essex area recently.

I was honestly blown away by some of the things that we were able to see; who knew that somewhere only a few hours away has so much to offer? In case you’re looking for a weekend escape, I’ve pulled together the elements you should throw in to create the perfect girl’s getaway in Windsor!

Go on a boat cruise: Is there really any better way to get to see a city than by water? Get out on a fun river cruise to check out both the Windsor & Detroit skylines, the gorgeous cottages and get an unbelievable view of the Ambassador Bridge. The dinner and dance cruise with Windsor River Cruises gives you the perfect chance to enjoy some drinks and dinner on the river, and the DJ keeps the tunes going all evening as you sail into the sunset.

Catch up at a cafe: Ladies, let’s be honest – we all love a cute cafe, and Windsor has no shortage of them. The new “Windsor Essex Coffee Trail” has several amazing stops with delicious coffee so you can refuel before continuing on with the rest of the fun you have planned. Taloola Cafe has a selection of delicious coffee beverages (including a few smoothies – try the Good Morning Smoothie for a fresh boost) and a really unique, artsy setting.

Cafe March 21 is also an absolute must if you’re in the area. I fell in love with this quirky café that’s full of fun little surprises, like Woody from Toy Story hanging from a vent over the cash. The delicious treats are all baked in house and they take their coffee seriously.

Hit up the casino: Obviously you can’t have a girls’ weekend in Windsor without a trip to the casino, which means you have to go! A visit to Caesar’s Windsor will give you a taste of Vegas with tons of slot machines & table games, plenty of entertainment and a perfect location near the water. If you win big, you can even treat your girls to a spa day at the Spa by Windsor Arms.

Find a charming B&B: Is there anything cuter than a cozy bed and breakfast? They’re picturesque (I did it for the Insta) and give you a completely different setting that almost makes it feel like a home away from home.

Checking out Cooper’s Hawk with Eleni, Kait, Kelsey & Marissa

Discover your new favourite wine: When you’re on a girls’ getaway, wine must be on the agenda. Luckily, you’re in the heart of one of the best wine areas this country has to offer. Plan a few tastings in the Essex Pelee Island Coast Wine Country  and discover some amazing vineyards you might now have tried before.

I definitely recommend stopping by Cooper’s Hawk Vineyards to try their dry Riesling & enjoy a meal in their on-site restaurant.

Get active: Go on a little adventure and get active. The Windsor-Essex area has a plethora of activities to get you outside so you can enjoy the summer weather. Try golfing at Rochester Place Golf Club & Resort for a leisurely afternoon activity (drinks on the golf cart are a necessity) and enjoy a post-game bite at The Parkside Grille – the food is amazing!

If you want to get out on the water, there’s really no better option than paddle boarding, something I fell in love with while in Costa Rica. It’s such a fun activity and Urban Surf Co (run by the coolest people you might ever meet) will make it a blast. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll love paddling around the water.

The 10-person freighter canoe excursion shows you another side of the park, and a beautiful new pavilion area is great for a beach-side picnic. And as a bonus, admission is free with a Parks Canada Discovery Pass this year!

Will you be planning a girls’ getaway in Windsor any time soon? What types of activities do you like to do when you go away?
