My love affair with Grease began back when I was about 10 years old and the film was re-released. My mom brought home a copy of the movie and I fell hard for it; the singing, the story, Sandy finding herself and the hand jiving stole my heart – this is definitely the point where I fell in love with musicals as well. I watched and re-watched it so many times in the next few years. I had a thing for making my friends reenact the scenes with me while we watched – my parents’ bed became our prop car during Grease Lightning and we ran around it pretending to wrap it. For my next birthday, I had to have a Grease-themed party and all of my gal pals had to dress up in poodle skirts or as Pink Ladies. And I will gladly admit that I spent all four years of high school desperately hoping that Grease would be the musical that the drama department decided to put on that year – what girl didn’t want to be Sandy? – though I never got my wish. I was, quite literally, hopelessly devoted to Grease.
20 years later, I still love Grease as much as I did back when I ran around the house singing You’re The One That I Want (and yes, I still know just about all the words to every song), and I was so excited to hear that Grease the Musical was going to be making its way to Toronto last year. I heard so many amazing things about the show and its cast, but sadly I wasn’t able to make it out to a show before it ended its run in January. I was pretty upset that I didn’t have a chance to check it out, but I noticed that tons of buzz still followed the show after its closing, including a petition that was started to #BringGreaseBack.
Yeah, I was pretty hopeful that the show would come back, but you never really know what’s going to happen, right? Wrong! I received the most amazing bit of news today when I found out that Grease the Musical is going to be making its way back to Toronto’s Winter Garden Theatre in May to celebrate the movie’s 40th anniversary. Guys, you have no idea how excited I am and I can guarantee that I’m finally going to be making my way into the audience this time. Can I just go ahead and call this one an early birthday present?
If you’re like me and can’t wait to go see the show, I’ll give you a little head’s up. Tickets for this run of the show, which starts May 24th, will be available to the public starting on Friday, April 6th. And I’ll let you in on a secret – Facebook fans of Grease the Musical Toronto can access an exclusive presale for preview tickets on Tuesday, April 3rd – you’re welcome.
Who else is going to be hand jiving in the audience of Grease the Musical Toronto with me?
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Grease the Musical Toronto, but as always opinions are very much 100% my own! xo
Calling all brides to be! If you’re planning on taking a walk down the aisle in the near future, this weekend is your perfect chance to get a little wedding inspiration and to chat with some amazing vendors who just be able to make your big day that much more amazing. The National Bridal Show will be taking place at the Enercare Centre in Toronto from February 4th – 5th, and brings together all of the different aspects of planning a wedding to make your life even easier. If it’s any indication of how successful the show has been, it’s currently heading into its 40th year; in other words, you won’t want to miss this.
I’ve attended the National Bridal Show a couple of times in the past when I’ve been a bridesmaid (I’m not quite there – yet) and was really amazed at the quality and selection of vendors; it’s an amazing chance for brides, grooms and friends to check out some amazing options and have a chance to chat with them firsthand. The fashion shows are also great to take in to help give you some ideas for what you and your wedding party will be wearing on the big day. We’re talking wedding inspo for days.
This year, the Bridal Show is also introducing a few great new features:
- The Wedding Hacks tent (sponsored by Simple Skincare) is perfect for the DIY bride or those who want to make the planning even easier. Experts will be on hand for different sessions throughout the weekend to share tricks and tips to make your wedding even better.
- The Canada Gay Weddings lounge is being added this year, giving attendees a chance to hear from other LGBTQ couples on how they planned their perfect wedding and is a great place to get some tips on making your day special. Oh, and delicious drinks and giveaways aplenty will ensure that this lounge is a fun time, and the opposite of stressful planning.
- The planning centre will feature experts from a variety of sources, including Flight Centre, the Wedding Planners Institute of Canada and Urban Scribes Design Studio to provide a bit more hands on planning; you’ll be able to chat with them to get some ideas or even to start the planning while you’re there!
Of course, the show also features some gorgeous wedding fashions (because who doesn’t enjoy looking at wedding dresses) for the bride, groom and wedding party, and exclusive sales to help you save while you plan.
As a bonus, admission to the National Bridal Show is free for brides-to-be (register now) and tickets for anyone else attending can be purchased online beforehand or at the door. Will you be stopping by the show this weekend?
This one’s for my Toronto area peeps! Looking for some new shoes? The JustFab (aka where I buy most of my shoes) warehouse sale is coming this weekend! Starting tomorrow (December 8th) and running until Sunday, December 11th, the sale will feature unbelievable discounts on the already low-priced shoes; I’m talking three pairs of flats/sandals/shoes for $45 and 3 pairs of booties/boots for $75. Seriously.
And in case you’re in need of some new workout wear, Lole gear will also be available at amazing discounted prices!
Sound too good to miss? I thought so (I’ll be checking it out too!). The sale runs from 10 am – 9 pm Thursday and Friday and 10 am – 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday at the International Centre Hall 6 (600 Airport Road in Missisauga). Will you be checking it out?
This one’s for my GTA ladies! Ready to do some spring shopping? I sure am, and last week I had the chance to do some pre-vacay prep during the first CF Fairview Mall Girl’s Night! Held every Thursday night in April, this exciting event is going to make your shopping experience even better.
How does it work? Spend $100 or more at any of the participating retailers and receive a Girl’s Night shopping bag, which you can present to get into the lounge (located just outside of Sears). The lounge is seriously cute and is the perfect place to relax & get pampered! You can munch on some tasty treats (including yummy chocolate from Godiva – exactly what a girl needs), try out some mini spa & hair services & check out some of the fab upcoming trends to inspire you for spring! My friends Jenelle, Sandra and I spent the evening checking everything out and had a great time – bring along some pals and make a night out of it!
The best part? CF Fairview Mall has partnered with an amazing charity, One More Wear Foundation, as part of this event. It’s a youth-run non-profit that helps to provide young men and women with clothes that will give them the confidence to pursue their goals and reach their potential. They collect donations which will be given to youth in local communities. They’ll be accepting donations of gently used clothing throughout the month of April (and customers that donate will receive a $10 CF SHOP card as a thank you). It’s a great charity, and one that is definitely worth supporting – who doesn’t have some clothing kicking around that can be used to help someone else feel their best and get ahead?
Will you check out Girl’s Night?
I’ve got a confession to make — I’m totally all up in Bachelor Nation. I watch the Bachelor, Bachelorette & Bachelor in Paradise (my new fave) and I don’t even feel guilty about it. Don’t we all just need a little time to turn our brains off and just enjoy some good old fashioned drama once in a while?
Last year I attended Eligible Magazine’s TIFF Bachelor Party at Flirty Girl Fitness. Hosted by Michael Stagliano and a few of my Bachelor faves, it was a great time – really the perfect girls’ night out! My friend Jenelle and I had a blast last time, and we can’t wait to stop by the party again this year!
Having a blast with Jenelle at last year’s Bachelor Party!
