It’s almost that time of year again and Christmas is definitely in the air. I can’t believe we’re just over a week away from December; this year has been a really busy one for me, and it feels like time has just flown by. December 1st marks the first day for Advent calendars and I’ve seen some of the best ones yet. I’m sharing the best beauty Advent calendars for 2017 so you can find the one that’s perfect for you! There are so many different options at various price points and they’re all worth taking a look at.

The Body Shop consistently has some of my favourite Advent calendars. Every year, their team creates calendars and holiday gifts based on a theme, and this year was all about “kidulting,” embracing your inner child and having a little fun. They have four calendars available this year: 25 Days of Game-Changing Advent-ure ($139 – my personal favourite), 25 Days of Game-Changing Advent-ure Ultimate ($169), 25 Days of Game-Changing Advent-ure Standard ($99) and 24 Days of Beauty ($69). They each feature a slew of The Body Shop favourites and hide cute games and messages behind each box. Oh, and this year a portion of every holiday gift purchased will go towards International Alert to help Syrian refugee children.

L’Occitane has one of the most luxurious Advent calendars ($69) out there – it’s jam-packed with fab skincare and body goodies that will have you feeling amazing all holiday season. This year, they’ve also introduced a Premium Version ($134) of their Advent calendar for an even more luxe experience.

If you’re a lipstick lover, the NYX Cosmetics Lippie Countdown Advent Calendar ($65) is a must-have. This calendar features 24 days of lippies, including their Butter Gloss, Lip Lingerie and Matte Lipstick, in a range of gorgeous shades. It’s the perfect way to widen your lip wardrobe and you can share the shades that don’t work for you with your pals!

If you really want to spoil yourself or someone special, the Charlotte Tilbury Naughty & Nice Magic Box ($250) is the way to go. This 12-day calendar is full of both full size and deluxe minis of some of her best-selling items like the Magic Cream Moisturizer and Lip Lustre Lip Gloss.

This year, Quo has two Advent calendar options. The 12 Days of Colorful Healthy Nails contains 12 pretty Quo by Orly shades, while the 12 Days of Beauty has some of their favourite makeup items to get you holiday ready. Both are priced at $40 and are available at Shoppers Drug Mart.

The Kiehl’s x Kate Moross Advent Calendar ($89) is another that will have you feeling fantastic this season – with 23 skin and body products and a surprise inside, you’ll be able to find new favourites and fall back in love with others. I love the design of this one, which was created by artist Kate Moross.

I can’t wait to dig into the Decléor Hello December Surprise Me! calendar. It’s full of deluxe samples from their bestselling ranges – and it even includes three full-size products to add to your collection. This luxe calendar is a skincare addict’s dream come true.

Hands down, Artdeco has one of the best calendar’s for beauty lovers every year. This year’s calendar ($86 at Shoppers Drug Mart) is no different and I highly recommend it. It’s made up of 20 full-size products, 3 samples and even comes with a bonus Optimum points offer – pick up a couple for gifts and your girls will love you.

PS. Now might be a good time to pick up your calendar for this year so you can take advantage of this weekend’s Black Friday specials!

Have you ever wanted to try the ombré lip? I’ll admit I’ve always been intrigued by the look, but I’ve seen some major fails that have made me stay away – until now! This past weekend, I stopped by the Shopper’s Drug Mart #LipsAndScents beauty gala at the Sherway Gardens Beauty Boutique location, where I had a chance to chat with some of the beauty advisors and learned how to achieve the perfect ombré.

I had a chance to chance with beauty expert Sim during the #SDMBeautyGala, and she walked my through the steps to get the perfect red ombré lip, some of which were a little surprising – they worked unbelievably well to get this look. Want to give it a try? Follow these steps and it will be easy!

  1. Start by prepping the links. Use a lip scrub to buff off dry skin and resurface your lips. Afterwards, apply lip balm and let it sit for 2-3 minutes to absorb. Blot your lips with a tissue to absorb excess moisture (if you’re going with a matte lip).
  2. Apply a coat of your chosen lip colour. Sim matched me up with Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipstick in Infrared Matte. She suggests starting with this to give the liner something to adhere to.
  3. Here’s where things get interesting. Take a brown eyeliner (yes, eyeliner), like Lise Watier Smoky Kohl Velours in Brun Velours, and line the lips, putting extra emphasis on the corners of the lips.
  4. Apply a second coat of your lipstick, being careful to blend the liner into the colour so that it fades in. Blot with a tissue to set.
  5. Finish the look off with a bit of highlighting. Dab a lip brush into a highlighting powder, like Shiseido’s Face Color Enhancing Trio in PK1 – she blended together the top two shades), tap it off, and apply to the inner center of the top and bottom lip to add a beautiful highlight.

How do you feel about nail art? I’m totally into this fun way to express yourself and your style through your nails. Sure, the canvas is small, but your nails can say a ton about you.  With an unlimited number of options available, it’s easy to customize your nails to suit your look, play along with an event, or take advantage of the latest trends!

For a nail art addict like myself, Shoppers Drug Mart is heaven on Earth.  With polishes and tools from amazing brands like Essie, Ceramic Glaze and Sally Hansen available in one convenient spot, a world of options is literally at your fingertips.  I’m willing to admit that I’ve personally spent hours perusing this section of the store, checking out the latest shades and finishes – I’ve ended up with a polish collection that would make a salon owner envious.

This spring and summer is all about colour for the nails. When it comes to figuring out what nail art looks I would like to create, I like to draw inspiration from the latest fashion and beauty trends, as well as classic seasonal looks.  I love checking out all of the latest designer collections at the various Fashion Weeks from around the world to see cool patterns that I can translate into fun designs – the cruise and resort collections are always a huge inspiration for me with their bold prints and fun use of colours.  I also love to take inspiration from sights and themes of the season.  I love using floral motifs (bright & pastel colours are so fun!), beachy hues (think beautiful blues and sandy taupes) and fun things like ice cream cones and watermelon – you can pull nail art inspiration from anything!

I love the fact that anyone can try nail art as well. It can be intricate and detailed, like drawing beautiful patterns or tiny images on your nails.  These require a lot of patience and practice, but once you get to this point you can create gorgeously unique manis! Not a pro or just getting started? There are tons of other looks you can try that don’t require as much skill.  The “Painted Love” mani I’ve created here is perfect for someone who is just getting into nail art.  I love that it has a bit of an abstract flower garden look to it!  I started off by prepping the nails with Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat before applying two coats of Essie Blanc for a white base colour.  I then created a fun abstract pattern by dry brushing (be sure to wipe off most of the polish from the brush so it doesn’t blob on the nails) Misslyn Scandalous, Ceramic Glaze Santorini Blue and Ceramic Glaze Watermelon Cooler in random spots over the nail. Finally, I locked in the polish with a coat of Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat.

How do you like to add a little nail art to your look? Where do you like to pull mani inspiration from? Try some looks of your own out & earn extra Shoppers Optimum Points (15x the points!) when you spend $15 or more on polishes & tools from brands like Revlon, L’Oreal Paris & Misslyn. I would love to see your nail art looks!

Get your hands on the latest nail looks at Shoppers Drug Mart. Plus, from May 23 – June 19, get 15x the Shoppers Optimum Points when you spend $15 or more on participating nail products.

Now that Halloween has come and gone, I feel like it is perfectly acceptable for me to start getting into a holiday state of mind.  I’m going to have to go ahead and say it’s a good thing for you – it’s time for me to start featuring some of my favourite holiday collections and gift ideas (not to mention tips for helping your beautiful self battle the cold weather and the onslaught of beauty issues that go hand in hand with it).  It’s November 5th and we hit negative temperatures in Toronto the other night so I think that it’s as good a time as any to get the first of many holiday collections up – and it’s a fun one!

So, what do we have here? The Quo Holiday 2013 Collection (available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart). The packaging, the colours, the products and the fun little goodies – I love everything about it.  With a beautiful navy blue and rose gold theme running throughout, these products feel so elegant, and I can’t wait to display them on my vanity.  Let me show you a few of my favourite products, which also double as fantastic gifts for the beauty-obsessed on your list.

Holiday

Quo Shimmer Puff

Quo Shimmer Puff ($20) – I absolutely adore this dainty little tub of shimmer.  Housed in a petite, navy jewelry box accented with a rose gold bow, this shimmery powder is a great accessory for your holiday parties.  The shimmery pink is perfect for adding a little highlighting to your cheekbones and decolletage when you feel like sparkling a little on a night out.

Holiday1

Quo Emergency Kit

Quo Emergency Kit ($32) – Ooh, this little baby is just jam-packed with goodies.  The perfect size to toss in your purse or keep in your desk, it’s got just about everything you need for an emergency touch up during an event or to quickly take your look from a long day at the office to a night out where you just might run into a handsome someone under the mistletoe.  In this handy little kit you’ll find 4 eye shadows, 4 lip glosses, one blush and a set of mini travel brushes you can easily perk up your look.

Holiday2

Quo On The Go Beauty Set – Packaging

Holiday3

Quo On The Go Beauty Set Contents

Quo On The Go Beauty Set ($60) – Oh my, I’m obsessing over this.  Seriously, if I didn’t have it in my hands already I can promise you it would be on my wish list this Christmas. As if the gorgeous rose gold and navy cosmetic case wasn’t enough, this set has tons of goodies inside, including 4 mini lip glosses, one blush, one mascara, 2 brushes and a set of 24 full sized eyeshadows which will cover all of the bases (the shimmery navy in the bottom left quad? I die).

Holiday4

Quo Cosmetic Crackers

Quo Cosmetic Crackers ($15 for 3) – Last, but certainly not least (and arguably the most fun), we have Quo’s amazing take on the traditional holiday cracker.  Each cracker contains a fun surprise – a Quo eye shadow duo and mini lip gloss, with three different colour combinations.  I think I am going to have to get my hands on a few more of these before they sell out – I think a girl’s night/holiday dinner is in order and these would be the perfect surprise for my friends!

This is only a handful of the amazing beauty treats offered in the Quo Holday 2013 Collection.  I’ve already spotted this in stores, so now’s the perfect time to stock up on some early Christmas gifts – I wouldn’t wait too long though, because I noticed a few items are already sold out at my local Shoppers!  What do you think of this collection?  Anything you’d love to grab?

Noted: Quo Cosmetics products are available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart stores
