Last week I chatted about the new Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation, sharing an overview and swatches of the new collection. This week I’m bringing you my very first wear test video! I decided to give the foundation, concealer and primer a try, showing you 9 hours of wear – head to my previous blog post to hear more about my thoughts.

Check it out:

For those of you curious, I used the foundation in the shade Classic Ivory and the concealer in the shades Fair & Light – Fair ended up being surprisingly light on my pale skin (and right now I’m turning into a nice shade of Casper).

Drugstore foundations are always fun to try. They’re more affordable and accessible than most of the versions you’ll find at Sephora & department stores, but can really be hit or miss. I’ve tried some great ones & some duds and now there’s a new one on the market that I couldn’t wait to dive into – the new Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation. The original Lasting Finish Foundation will still be sticking around, so don’t worry if you love that one. This new version is supposed to be light and airy, so you don’t feel like you have anything on your skin and it can still breathe underneath your makeup, avoiding congestion and having your makeup look like it’s caked on.

In addition to the new Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation, Rimmel is also launching a concealer and primer to go along with this.

I want to chat about the foundation with you first & I’ll touch on the concealer and primer below!

The foundation ($11.99 CAD) is available in 15 shades (mostly mid-toned shades). This is definitely an expansion of the shade range they’ve offered before, which is great to see, but there’s definitely still room for improvement. It would be great to see them break into some darker shades, especially since brands are really starting to make an effort to have something for every skin tone, and to have more offerings for those with deeper skin tones since they’re still a little limited there.  That being said, it’s really nice to see a wider shade range, especially for a really affordable foundation option. Hopefully in the future, they’ll be able to expand this further and make it more inclusive.

The foundation does feel really light on the skin and offers light to medium coverage, which can be built on. I found that it gave a really nice, even look to my complexion (I’ve been wearing the shade Classic Ivory) while helping to cover up problem areas. I do need to use concealer to build up more coverage on areas that need a bit more help, but really like how this wears for a daytime foundation. I actually prefer not to set this one with a powder; it has a pretty soft finish and sets nicely on my skin, but I’ve been pretty dehydrated lately and I find using a setting powder dries it out a bit too much. If you’re a bit oilier you might want to add this step in.

The foundation comes with a wand applicator, which I like. I apply the foundation directly onto my skin using this and use a brush to blend it out. If you prefer a pump, you’re out of luck on this one; just use the applicator to throw some on your hand before you apply normally.

It’s not cakey at all, which is something we can all agree is a good thing, and it does leave my skin looking fresh. I found that it lasted quite well through the day and a bar shift; I did have a little bit of shininess at the end of the night but it wasn’t bad at all. It did fade a bit over some red spots, but again, at this point, I had been wearing it for about 18 hours. Will it last for 25 hours? I find that a little hard to believe, but for a light-to-medium coverage foundation I found that it did a pretty good job.

The Rimmer Lasting Finish Breathable Concealer ($10.99 CAD), available in 6 shades, provides medium, buildable coverage for problem areas. It’s a bit on the thicker side and blends really nicely into to skin. I find that it does a pretty good job of covering up imperfections without looking heavy.

It comes with a round, cushion applicator for direct application to the skin. It doesn’t work too well for me for really blending in the concealer, so I tend to apply to the skin using this and blend using either a sponge or my finger.

This collection also includes the Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Primer ($11.99) to help prolong the life of your foundation by up to 8 hours. It’s quite thick and lotion-y and not my personal favourite style of primer. At first, it felt a bit tacky, but once my foundation had been applied and set it softened and left behind a more matte feel.

Will you be giving the Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation a try? What’s your favourite drugstore foundation?

Check back next week because I’ll be sharing a wear test video!

I fell in love with Rimmel’s matte Kate Moss lipstick collection a while back when it was released – I loved the colours, the texture and the matte finish. The deeper shades were so fantastic, and I know I wasn’t the only one impressed with the collection. When I found out that they were putting out a nude lineup, the Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Nude Collection, which recently launched, I had super high hopes. I’m not always a nude lip kinda gal – I go for a bit more drama when it comes to my pout – I couldn’t wait to at least give it a try.

The collection is comprised of 4 nude shades and a bonus lip balm. I didn’t try the lip balm, so I can’t speak to that, but I did give the 4 lipstick shades a try. Read on for swatches and my thoughts on them below!

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Nude Lipstick in 40

40 – The lightest shade in the collection. This lipstick is very light, and unfortunately just didn’t jive with me. It’s just way too light for me, and I’m hella pale even in the summer. It had a very patchy look when I applied it and gave me a bit of trouble as I tried to give it more of a smooth look. Unfortunately, this one was a strike for me. It might suit someone with more neutral undertones a little more – I do have more of a pink undertone to my complexion.

Rimmel Last Finish by Kate Moss Nude Lipstick in 42

42 – This shade is a bit darker than 40, with more of a peach hue to it. Again, it is quite light, though not too pigmented. It’s not my first choice, but I can see myself wearing this from time to time – still a bit light with my complexion.

43 – The next shade down, this has a bit more of a tan look to it, which unfortunately didn’t seem to work too well for me. It came out a little too orange on my skin than I would have liked at first, but I got used to it after wearing for a little while. That being said, I think this would be a great match for someone with a bit more of a tan complexion or more golden tones.

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Nude Lipstick in 45

45 – Finally, I found the shade that I personally can work with the most! The deepest shade of the 4 that I tried, and also the sheerest, gives off a rose tone that I really like. I personally prefer nudes that go a little darker and work with my natural lip colour – and that’s exactly what this shade does. It’s creamy and lovely and gives a really nice bit of rosy colour.

What do you think of the Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Nude Collection? Will you be trying any shade from it?

Hi guys!  I’m taking a week off from life to unplug and hang out in Orlando.  This week is going to be all about relaxing and having a little fun – and yes, I’m definitely going to be checking out Disney World (OMG, Disney princesses…) and Universal Studios (HARRY POTTER LAND).  Anyways, since I’m taking this time to regroup, I’ve enlisted the help of some of my fellow Canadian Beauty Bloggers to bring some amazing content my way.  Today’s post comes from Ling Chiu of The Cosmetic Critic.  Make sure you give her a follow below to check out some more amazing content from her 🙂

Hi! My name’s Ling and I blog over at The Cosmetic Critic. Thanks Dee for having me guest post and hopefully you’re having fun away 🙂

As all beauty junkies know, it’s really hard to finish beauty products, and rather rare concerning makeup. Having a backup of something is usually an indication of something well loved, enough so that we spend our limited funds on products that we might not even get to open.

Well, that’s the case for most people. I’m not like most people since I’m (supposed to be) on a budget, thus I own products that I don’t necessarily want backups of, though some of them are items that I do genuinely like.

A lot of people rave about the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, but honestly I don’t get the hype. Yeah, it’s a nice drugstore powder but it’s really not that exceptional. I do have a backup but only because it was on sale and I thought it would be worthwhile to go buy another (even though I rarely hit pan on powders…).

Another powder that I have a backup of is the e.l.f. Essential Clarifying Powder. It’s not that great honestly since it’s kind of chalky, but it makes up for it through it’s strong pigmentation. My sister bought these but I don’t understand why since they’re several shades too light for her. As a result, I now possess them since they are a much better shade match on me.

She also gifted me 2 deluxe samples of the Elisa Coy Always Nuddy CC Cream (of which I already had one of). While I haven’t been using it much lately, it’s still a nice product that I’m attempting to use more now.

I love The Face Shop’s Design My Eyebrow pencil since it’s such a good match for my brows. So much so that I purposely purchased another since I knew I would finish the one that I’m currently using (and likely to finish soon).

Lip balms are one of the few types of products that actually make sense for me to repurchase since I go through them so quickly. My top picks are Nivea and eos lip balms, so I always have them on hand. I’m not really a fan of Softlips since it’s of the methanol variety, but they are life savers when I have uncomfortable lips.
