Although it may seem simple, matching your foundation and concealer to your skin tone, and each other, isn’t always an easy task. With so many different shades available, undertones coming into play, and different lighting playing tricks on your eyes, finding your perfect shades can be a bit of a challenge, but with the right products and a couple of tips, you can find a seamless match!
When looking for the perfect foundation and concealer, don’t be afraid to look around and try a few shades – the ones that work might surprise you! Compact foundations typically appear darker in the packaging than they do on your skin, so keep that in mind. It also helps to bring someone else along to take a look from a different perspective, and I strongly advise take a look at the shade that you’ve tried in natural light, not just in the store lighting, as you’ll most likely see a difference. Once you’ve found a shade or two that you think closely matches your skin tone, swipe them along your jawline on the side of your face. If it blends in and you don’t see a colour difference, you’ve met your match – make sure it blends in well and doesn’t sit on the skin. You’ll definitely see a change in colour if it doesn’t work for you. When you’ve found the concealer and foundation shades you love, try layering them on top of each other to ensure they work well together and blend in nicely.
The Revlon ColorStay 2-in-1 Compact Makeup and Concealer helps to take the guesswork out of matching your concealer and foundation, which is a pretty good place to start. They’ve found combinations of these two products that blend together perfectly, meaning you’ll never find yourself with mismatched shades. The complementary foundation and concealer shades are housed in the same compact, making application (and reapplication throughout the day) easy. The perfectly matched foundation and concealer provides buildable coverage so you can find the exact level that you need, and has a demi-matte finish so you have a hint of a glowing, dewy look.
I’ve found that having both the concealer and foundation matched beforehand has been a great help when it comes to my daily application. I never have to worry about my concealer showing up (there’s nothing worse than orange or super pale spots – I’m not a cheetah), and the creamy formula of both products ensures that blending is never an issue. They both feel great on my skin, never greasy, and I’m left with a glowing, flawless look that lasts all day long.
I love that it comes with an applicator and mirror built in – between this and the combination of foundation and concealer, this is the perfect product to take on the go! To make things even easier for application, the concealer and foundation are kept on two separate layers. To start, apply concealer to any problem areas that need a little more attention, and then flip the concealer up to easily access the cream foundation. A tear-shaped sponge applicator is housed underneath the foundation layer (flip this up to access it) and is a great tool for applying and blending in both the concealer and foundation.
Without makeup on left, concealer applied in center, foundation + concealer applied on right
All in all, I’m definitely a fan of how easy it is to find the perfect colour combo (they always blend seamlessly together) and the convenience of having both products in one simple compact, so you know your concealer and foundation are always going to blend perfectly together. How do you find your perfect match?
