SUMMER IS HERE! Yep, as of Sunday summer has officially arrived. I’m going to help you get ready to beat the heat and survive the season with some of my top warm weather beauty picks.

Look Hot

  • The Refresh Botanicals BB Cream ($24) is perfect for giving your skin a bit of a boost when the heat hits. This lightweight BB cream helps to even out skintone, leaving it more radiant and smooth, while hydrating (thanks to safflower, almost and jojoba oils) and protecting against the signs of aging. It’s ideal for days at the beach when you want a bit of coverage and hydration without layering on the foundation.
  • Shine bright with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel ($12 ea/$20 for duo pack). 2 new collections and 5 limited edition shades coming in July mean tons of colour options (the Boho Chic collection is hella bright and perfect for pedis!) while a new Top Coat Activator locks in colour and provides serious shine and volume, giving you the effect of a gel manicure at home – without using a UV/LED light!

Tame Your Mane

  • Banish fly-aways and frizz with Redken Fly-Away Fix Finishing Sheets ($25). These sheets, which resemble those used in the dryer to get rid of static, are easily stashed in your purse for easy access throughout the day. Swipe one throughout your hair and over fly-aways to tone them down for a sleek finish.
  • Make styling your hair after a day in the water a snap with Cake Beauty Satin Sugar Texturizing Beach Spray ($24, available July at Murale). This non-drying spray helps to build body and create soft beachy waves using sugar and a tiny bit of salt. Spray it in, scrunch your locks and let them air dry for a perfectly tousled look.
  • Give your hair a deep clean with Biolage Cleansing Conditioner ($34 for 1L). Available in 4 different formulas for fine, medium, coarse & curly hair, these conditioners get rid of the need for shampoo so you can give your hair a rest, while nourishing, strengthening and preventing frizz. Get rid of product, chlorine and sweat buildup so your hair stays cleaner and fresher longer.
  • Minimize blow dry time with a spritz of Matrix Style Link Turbo Dryer Blow Dry Spray ($18). This quick drying spray helps to speed up your blow dry while helping to tame frizz and fly-aways for smoother, sleeker style.

Cool Down

  • The Sephora Collection Glitter and Chill Cooling Mask ($15) is the perfect way to relax after a day in the sun or the morning after. Keep it in the fridge and throw it on to depuff, cool down tired eyes & relax.
  • Wake up tired skin with the Sephora Collection Moisturizing and Energizing Jelly Mask ($24 for 6 masks). These individually packaged masks help to refresh and illuminate tired skin for an instantly energized look. Pop them in the fridge for half an hour before using for an instantly refreshing and cooling feel.

Keep Going

  • Getting used to your favourite or new sandals & wedges again can be a pain. Polysporin Blister Treatment ($8). These discreet, water resistant pads help to immediately relieve blister pain while they give a cushion that protects from rubbing so that blisters can heal quickly and you can keep rocking those sky high wedges.

What are your favourite beauty products to help you survive the summer?

Happy Monday gorgeous!   It’s going to be an exciting week here in Toronto as World Mastercard Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2015 gets under way downtown.  I’m a big fan of WMCFW and seeing all of the beauty and fashion trends that come along with it.  This week, I’m not going to be spending as much time as usual at the tents because of work, but I’ll still be there for a couple of days and will keep you updated with all of the news and upcoming trends!

I’m going to be backstage today and tomorrow to hang out with Essie, Redken and Maybelline backstage so I can get a firsthand glimpse of the upcoming hair, makeup and nail trends for SS ’15.  I’ve also got something fun going on with Redken – I’ll be checking out the looks for a few different shows and will even have a chance to have one of the looks recreated on myself – be sure to let me know which one is your favourite so I can try it out!  I’ll also be checking out the Pink Tartan, Melissa Nepton and Target shows, three of the shows I can’t wait to see!  I adore Pink Tartan, Melissa Nepton is one of my favourite Canadian designers, and do I really even have to say anything about Target??  If you were following along last year you would know exactly why I’m so excited for this show.

Make sure you’re following me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook so you can see all of my WMCFW SS 15 coverage as the action happens on the runways and backstage.  I can’t wait to see what we have to look forward to for the Spring/Summer 2015 season and am so excited to be able to share it all with you!

Will you be checking out WMCFW at all?  Which collections are you excited for?  What do you hope to see on the runways for this season (fashion and beauty)?

Yesterday I shared my favourite makeup looks from last week’s WMCFW and I thought that today I’d take the opportunity to share some of the hair looks that Redken’s lead stylist Jorge Joao created for the shows.  Hopefully you can take some inspiration from these and find a way to bring them home!  I’ve also added Jorge’s tips and the products used to make it even easier to recreate these.  This season saw a lot of focus on textures, braids and ponytails that you can easily give more of an every-day look to.  Take a look and let me know which of these styles you would love to try!

“Begin with a heavy right-side part by pulling your hair away from your face towards the ear. Spray Redken Fashion Works 12 to set the hair, smooth any fly-a-ways and increase shine.  Next, on the left side, grab a 2-inch section and start at the mid-shaft of your hair with a curling iron. After spraying Redken Hot Sets 22 on your section, use the curling iron to create a slight bend, while leaving the ends straight. To finish the look, spray the left side with Redken Pillow Proof Two Day Extender – this will create the contrast matte finish.”

“To prep hair, work Redken Fabricate 03 Heat Protectant Hair Texturizer through the roots. Next, start at the ends of your hair going up to the mid-shaft with Redken Full Frame 07 Volumizing Mousse and Redken Guts 10 Root Targeted Volumizing Hairspray Foam to add grit and texture. Pull your hair into a left-side part, back-combing both sides to add texture and body, creating a wing-like affect just behind the ears. Next, loosely pull your hair to the side of your neck and create a messy braid. Secure with an elastic and finish the look with Redken Quick Dry 18 Shaping Mist.”
There are a few other looks that I absolutely fell in love with.  I don’t have the steps/products used for them yet but wanted to share them in the meantime so you can take a look!  I’m hoping to get some how-to instructions for these this week and will definitely be updating this post when I have them, so be sure to stop back if you want to learn how any of them are done! What do you think of these looks?  Would you try any of them at home?

Day 4 of WMCFW was a little bit more special to me as I was able to really get in to the action.  First, I was able to go backstage to check out the beautiful “ice cream” nails Rita Remark created for the Soia and Kyo show, which were soft and dainty.  I then got to take in the Target show – it was their first time showing at WMCFW and it was a great start, so different from all of the other shows.  It was fun and had a holiday theme, with gifts for attendees (one of which was a Bullseye snowglobe – so cute) and special guests Bullseye the Target dog and Erin Wasson! I then also sat in on the Soia and Kyo and Rudsak shows, which were a great way to finish off the night.   Read on to check out some of the beauty looks from Day 4!

Makeup: Create a subtle, shimmery smoky eye by lining the upper lashes withMaybelline New York Master Smoky Longwearing Shadow-Pencil, smudging it up slightly with the pencil’s sponge tool. Swipe Maybelline New York EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Bad to the Bronze across the entire eyelid for a simple shiny finish. Flesh toned lips top off this holiday classic – Erin Wasson style.

Whitney Linen

Hair: Start with a textured, natural wave; try sleeping in a loose braid. Use RedkenSignature Looks Fashion Waves 07 Texturizing Sea Spray for added texture.  Make a left side part and sweep hair over the forehead. Spray RedkenFashion Work 12 all over the front portion and hairline and then rake back with fingers into a ponytail – make sure it isn’t too low on the neck.  Wrap the ponytail loosely in a round pattern,  creating a messier textured bun, secure with pins. Leave out random pieces to create a soft, romantic feel.  Finish with Redken Shine Flash 02 for added shine.

Caitlin Power

Hair: Start with clean straight hair. Create a Mohawk, pull both side sections back and clip that hair out of the way.  With the two remaining sections on the side of the head, brush down and back into a low, smooth ponytail and secure with elastic. Spray Control Addict 28 over sections to smooth and lock into place.  With the remaining Mohawk section, run some Redken Signature Looks Ruffle Up 14 to add some grip and additional texture. Create a tight French braid starting at the front of the head all the way down the already created ponytail.  Braid the ponytail into the braid to shorten the length.  Finish by sprayingRedken Control Addict 28  all over to secure and set the look.

Soia and Kyo

Nails: Three different base shades were used for these nails – Barefoot and Topless (for any skin tone), Fiji (for lighter skin tones) and Sand Tropez (for darker skin tones).  After this, a coat of Ballet Slippers was applied to soften the colours follow by Matte About You for a matte finish.

Rudsak at WMCFW SS 14 (Photo Credit: Jake Rosenberg via Maybelline)

Makeup: For Rudsak, the look was feminine and fun.  A bold cat eye with Master Precise liner was drawn on, and light, rosy pink lips and cheeks finished off the look.

Well, Fashion Week is almost over but that doesn’t mean the beauty looks will stop coming.  I’m onto Day 3 now so take a look!

Joe Fresh

Hair: Start with clean straight hair; use Redken Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine for a sleek shine.  Part hair to the left, making the part far over enough that you can make a side sweep over the forehead.  Smooth over the part and pull hair into a low, chic ponytail. Take a piece of hair and wrap around the elastic, securing with a bobby pin. Finish by spraying Redken Fashion Works 12 to secure any fly aways.

Makeup: The crux of this look is a bold, bushy brow – a major beauty trend that shows no sign of slowing down in the coming seasons. Brush light, short strokes of Maybelline New York EyeStudio Master Shape Brow Pencil into the eyebrow to appear sophisticated, wide-awake and undeniably ladylike.

Makeup: After evening out the complexion withMaybelline New York Fit Me! Foundation, give this look a hit of unexpected edge with a swipe of Maybelline New York EyeStudio Master Drama Cream Pencil in Made of Steel along the bottom waterline.

Nails: For this look, Rita Remark continued the silver theme.  She started with a pale pink base, added a silver chrome French tip, and finished with Matte About You.

Hair: Start with clean natural textured hair and then spray in Redken Signature Looks Fashion Waves 07 Texturizing Sea Spray for added texture and a piece-like look.  Section the front starting from the ear over the head to the other ear – pull forward and clip.  Pull the remaining hair in the back of head into a soft French braid; no need for perfection – a loose, disheveled braid gives a softer look.  Take the clip out of the front and pull two sides into a loose braid, leaving the front “fringe” secured. Pull the new braid back on top of the low French braid to a loose gather and secure with bobby pins.  Take the remaining “fringe” section out of clip and give a slight backcombing for volume, and spray with Redken Fashion Work 12.  Secure with bobby pins to your desired height. Braid any remaining strands of hair and pull back, securing with bobby pins. (how gorgeous is this massive braid?)
