Last week I chatted about the new Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation, sharing an overview and swatches of the new collection. This week I’m bringing you my very first wear test video! I decided to give the foundation, concealer and primer a try, showing you 9 hours of wear – head to my previous blog post to hear more about my thoughts.

Check it out:

For those of you curious, I used the foundation in the shade Classic Ivory and the concealer in the shades Fair & Light – Fair ended up being surprisingly light on my pale skin (and right now I’m turning into a nice shade of Casper).

Drugstore foundations are always fun to try. They’re more affordable and accessible than most of the versions you’ll find at Sephora & department stores, but can really be hit or miss. I’ve tried some great ones & some duds and now there’s a new one on the market that I couldn’t wait to dive into – the new Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation. The original Lasting Finish Foundation will still be sticking around, so don’t worry if you love that one. This new version is supposed to be light and airy, so you don’t feel like you have anything on your skin and it can still breathe underneath your makeup, avoiding congestion and having your makeup look like it’s caked on.

In addition to the new Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation, Rimmel is also launching a concealer and primer to go along with this.

I want to chat about the foundation with you first & I’ll touch on the concealer and primer below!

The foundation ($11.99 CAD) is available in 15 shades (mostly mid-toned shades). This is definitely an expansion of the shade range they’ve offered before, which is great to see, but there’s definitely still room for improvement. It would be great to see them break into some darker shades, especially since brands are really starting to make an effort to have something for every skin tone, and to have more offerings for those with deeper skin tones since they’re still a little limited there.  That being said, it’s really nice to see a wider shade range, especially for a really affordable foundation option. Hopefully in the future, they’ll be able to expand this further and make it more inclusive.

The foundation does feel really light on the skin and offers light to medium coverage, which can be built on. I found that it gave a really nice, even look to my complexion (I’ve been wearing the shade Classic Ivory) while helping to cover up problem areas. I do need to use concealer to build up more coverage on areas that need a bit more help, but really like how this wears for a daytime foundation. I actually prefer not to set this one with a powder; it has a pretty soft finish and sets nicely on my skin, but I’ve been pretty dehydrated lately and I find using a setting powder dries it out a bit too much. If you’re a bit oilier you might want to add this step in.

The foundation comes with a wand applicator, which I like. I apply the foundation directly onto my skin using this and use a brush to blend it out. If you prefer a pump, you’re out of luck on this one; just use the applicator to throw some on your hand before you apply normally.

It’s not cakey at all, which is something we can all agree is a good thing, and it does leave my skin looking fresh. I found that it lasted quite well through the day and a bar shift; I did have a little bit of shininess at the end of the night but it wasn’t bad at all. It did fade a bit over some red spots, but again, at this point, I had been wearing it for about 18 hours. Will it last for 25 hours? I find that a little hard to believe, but for a light-to-medium coverage foundation I found that it did a pretty good job.

The Rimmer Lasting Finish Breathable Concealer ($10.99 CAD), available in 6 shades, provides medium, buildable coverage for problem areas. It’s a bit on the thicker side and blends really nicely into to skin. I find that it does a pretty good job of covering up imperfections without looking heavy.

It comes with a round, cushion applicator for direct application to the skin. It doesn’t work too well for me for really blending in the concealer, so I tend to apply to the skin using this and blend using either a sponge or my finger.

This collection also includes the Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Primer ($11.99) to help prolong the life of your foundation by up to 8 hours. It’s quite thick and lotion-y and not my personal favourite style of primer. At first, it felt a bit tacky, but once my foundation had been applied and set it softened and left behind a more matte feel.

Will you be giving the Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation a try? What’s your favourite drugstore foundation?

Check back next week because I’ll be sharing a wear test video!

Benefit Stay Flawless

Exciting news, Benefit fans – continuing with the trend of their fab Hello Flawless products, they are launching the new Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer, set to hit stores in July.  I’m a big fan of primers and was really excited to see this new addition to the family.  I think that applying a primer is one of the most important steps in a beauty routine as it perfectly preps the skin for makeup application, and Benefit has made this step even easier.

Benefit Stay Flawless Primer

I’ve gotten used to using liquid or gel primers, and was really interested to see this stick-primer format.  It comes in a twist up tube so that the primer can easily glide across the skin.  It does appear to come in a beige tone, but once applied it blends seamlessly into the skin to match with any tone.

I really like how this primer preps my skin – it helps to hide pores and smooths the skin so that my foundation can apply evenly, and I’m glad to say that I do notice my makeup lasting longer than usual, which is fantastic.  It’s perfect to throw on in the morning before a long day so that you don’t have to worry about having to reapply throughout.  Benefit also threw in a little tip when applying foundation over the primer – apply with the fingertips to really help lock in the colour all day long.
