I’m going to start this off by letting you know that I’m an absolute Halloween fanatic. October 31st is, hands down, my favourite day of the year, and I usually start choosing my costume for next year as soon as the holiday has passed. This year, I’m finally being a mermaid, and completely DIYing my costume (I can share deets on this if anyone’s interested!). In the meantime, I wanted to share this subtle Candy Corn Manicure. I do realize that not everyone gets as worked up about Halloween as I do or prefer to take a more subtle approach to Halloween beauty; this easy nail art will give you a chance to get into the spirit without going overboard.

Oh, and did I mention it’s easy? Because it really is. My dad could probably pull this off.

Start off by prepping your nails with base coat to smooth (Formula X Color Corrector is perfect for this) and one-two coats of white polish (I used OPI Alpine Snow for this one). Prep your cuticles with a hydrating moisturizer or apply white glue or a cuticle guard to make clean up easier.

Next, take a triangular cosmetics sponge (you can pick these up at the dollar store) and trim it to get a piece that’s similar in width to your nails. Starting from the top, apply a wide stripe of polish in white, followed by a soft yellow (I used OPI Infinite Shine in Bee Mine Forever) and finished with a stripe of a soft orange shade (Essie Gel Couture in Looks to Thrill), layering them like a neopolitan ice cream that will fit from base to tip of your nails. Dab on a piece of paper a couple of times to blend the colours together a little, then gently dab onto your nails to transfer the polish and create the candy corn look. Reapply the polish to the sponge as needed, and try to do a couple of coats to build the colour. Once finished, apply a top coat (Seche Vite dries quickly and locks in colour) to blend the polish even more and secure the look.

Will you be trying this Candy Corn Manicure or any Halloween nail art?

impress Gel Manicure

Vacation nails – how do you do yours? As I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, I’m currently in Costa Rica for 2 weeks. Now, when I go away, I don’t want to spend time worrying about my nails. Polish is bound to chip and I don’t want to fuss over having to redo my mani several times throughout my trip, as it could be spent doing better things – like drinking rum from coconuts. I’m also not a shellac girl – My nails are in pretty good shape right now, and I plan on keeping them that way – plus I can’t wear the same colour for too long!

Cue the imPRESS Gel Manicure. I’ve worn these tons of times before and absolutely love them, but I recently learned something that’s making my love them even more – they’re the only waterproof press-on nails! As if the fact that they’re super easy to apply wasn’t good enough (you literally peel and stick), this makes them even more vacation friendly!

Plus, the variety of super cute (and Instagram-worthy) designs make these perfect for my trip. Convenience? Check. Long lasting? Check. Fun shades & patterns? Check. I threw a set on before I left for vacay & brought spares along in case of any mishaps, because throwing a new one on takes seconds and I’m ready to jump back into the surf.

Have you ever tried imPRESS nails?

How do you feel about nail art? I’m totally into this fun way to express yourself and your style through your nails. Sure, the canvas is small, but your nails can say a ton about you.  With an unlimited number of options available, it’s easy to customize your nails to suit your look, play along with an event, or take advantage of the latest trends!

For a nail art addict like myself, Shoppers Drug Mart is heaven on Earth.  With polishes and tools from amazing brands like Essie, Ceramic Glaze and Sally Hansen available in one convenient spot, a world of options is literally at your fingertips.  I’m willing to admit that I’ve personally spent hours perusing this section of the store, checking out the latest shades and finishes – I’ve ended up with a polish collection that would make a salon owner envious.

This spring and summer is all about colour for the nails. When it comes to figuring out what nail art looks I would like to create, I like to draw inspiration from the latest fashion and beauty trends, as well as classic seasonal looks.  I love checking out all of the latest designer collections at the various Fashion Weeks from around the world to see cool patterns that I can translate into fun designs – the cruise and resort collections are always a huge inspiration for me with their bold prints and fun use of colours.  I also love to take inspiration from sights and themes of the season.  I love using floral motifs (bright & pastel colours are so fun!), beachy hues (think beautiful blues and sandy taupes) and fun things like ice cream cones and watermelon – you can pull nail art inspiration from anything!

I love the fact that anyone can try nail art as well. It can be intricate and detailed, like drawing beautiful patterns or tiny images on your nails.  These require a lot of patience and practice, but once you get to this point you can create gorgeously unique manis! Not a pro or just getting started? There are tons of other looks you can try that don’t require as much skill.  The “Painted Love” mani I’ve created here is perfect for someone who is just getting into nail art.  I love that it has a bit of an abstract flower garden look to it!  I started off by prepping the nails with Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat before applying two coats of Essie Blanc for a white base colour.  I then created a fun abstract pattern by dry brushing (be sure to wipe off most of the polish from the brush so it doesn’t blob on the nails) Misslyn Scandalous, Ceramic Glaze Santorini Blue and Ceramic Glaze Watermelon Cooler in random spots over the nail. Finally, I locked in the polish with a coat of Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat.

How do you like to add a little nail art to your look? Where do you like to pull mani inspiration from? Try some looks of your own out & earn extra Shoppers Optimum Points (15x the points!) when you spend $15 or more on polishes & tools from brands like Revlon, L’Oreal Paris & Misslyn. I would love to see your nail art looks!

Get your hands on the latest nail looks at Shoppers Drug Mart. Plus, from May 23 – June 19, get 15x the Shoppers Optimum Points when you spend $15 or more on participating nail products.

As any beauty blogger would be, I’m obsessed with nail polish.  I have a collection that makes all of my friends envious and I’m constantly switching up my many for a bold new shade or an understated nude.  Of course, this also means that I’m a big fan of nail art and playing around with different designs, techniques and shades to see what I can create.  I’m not going to lie to you; I’m far from an expert when it comes to creating intricate designs on my nails.  I’m not exactly the most artistic person in the world (my brother got that talent from my mother and it seems like it skipped past me), but that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy trying to create something fun, which is exactly why I was excited when a little package containing the new OPI Color Paints showed up from the nail art gods.

So, what are the Color Paints?  OPI created this line of blendable, buildable nail lacquers as a way to make nail art easier than ever.  The somewhat sheer shades build in opacity with every layer for rich, vibrant colour.  They have a bit of a jelly feel to them, and great shine.  The line includes a fantastic shimmery silver base shade which really helps to illuminate the richness of these colours once they’ve been applied over it.  I’ve swatched all 8 shades for you below – the bottom swatch features one coat of Color Paint on its own, the middle swatch features one coat over Silver Canvas, and the top features two coats over silver canvas so that you can see the change in colour and opacity.  I’m also working on a fun nail art look using these to share with you soon! Check out all of the shades and let me know what you think in the comments below!

Pink Tartan is easily one of my favourite shows every time WMCFW rolls around.  I love Kim Newport-Mimran’s collections – between the colour palettes she leans towards, the luxurious & wearable styles and her use of different textures, I’m obsessed.

Rita Remark, Essie’s lead nail artist says, “The nail look is an androgynous matte nude, but each pinky carries a small ‘nail tattoo’.  One symbolizes ‘God’ and the other ‘Goddess’ to honour the monastic theme of the collection.”

Remark played on the collection’s Japanese & Tibetan inspiration to design this unique nail look, using Essie Allure as the base shade before painting the nail tattoos on with Essie Licorice.  The look was then completed with the Essie Matte About You top coat for a smooth finish.

I really love the idea of playing around with “nail tattoos” and am already thinking of fun ways to incorporate this into my look.  What do you think?
