Oh, hey there. I know, it’s been a couple of weeks since my last POTW post, so I’m making up for it with something that I’m absolutely crazy for. If you’ve been following me for a while, I’m sure you have a pretty good idea of how much I enjoy Maskeraide products. Their Pre Party Prep sheet mask is my favourite mask ever and the All Eyes On Me hydrating gel patches are a godsend.

Anyways, they recently launched a new mask that covers a territory they haven’t really delved into before – lips! The Maskeraide Tell Me ‘Pout It Hydrating Lip Mask is a gel mask that you apply over the lips, leave on for 10-15 minutes (aka while you do your eye makeup) and remove, gently massaging any leftover serum in. The lips are left feeling smooth, plump and ready for your fave lipstick.

The large gels contain a blend of Manuka Honey, Fermented Rose, Grapfruit Oil & an antioxidant berry complex to generously hydrate and soften. It feels a little strange the first time you wear them, given their size and the fact that you can’t open your mouth while wearing them, but once you get past the initial feeling you’ll love the results!

Honestly, you have to give this one a try to see why I love it so much – like all of the Maskeraide products, they really speak for themselves. Oh, and I have it on good authority that they have at least 2-3 more products coming out this year, so make sure you keep checking back to see what else is coming; if they’re anything like the Maskeraide Tell Me ‘Pout It masks, they’ll definitely be winners.

Summer may be winding down, but there’s still lots of time to take advantage of the beautiful weather and adventures that come with this time of year. When packing for a quickie getaway, it’s definitely important to minimize what you bring and pack a few key essentials that will get you through the trip! I’m sharing my favourite picks below – what are yours?

  • bliss triple oxygen radiance restoring mist – when you’re spending time traveling, whether it be by car, train or plane, there’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination and feeling like you need a complete refresher. This energizing face mist from bliss helps to wake your skin up, boost radiance, and freshens makeup so you can be ready to go as soon as your arrive.
  • Sephora Dry Clean Instant Dry Brush Cleaner Spray – Let’s face it – no one wants to waste precious vacation time cleaning their brushes while they’re away, but we always want our brushes feeling fresh for perfect application. This quick fix takes care of both of these; after giving your brush a couple of quick sprays, just sweep the brush over a tissue or towel to clear off surface residue. The best part? You don’t have to wait for your brush to dry.
  • Foreo Luna Play (at Murale) – Get ready to fall in love with this pocket-sized cleansing device. I’m sure you’ve already heard a ton about the Mini’s big sister, the original Luna; get ready to see the same cleansing action packed into this absolutely adorable version. While it still boasts the dual-zone layout, this smaller version comes pre-charged with 100 uses (this version is not rechargeable) and is perfect for a traveler.
  • MaskerAide All Eyes On Me Eye Gel Patches – I’m sure you’ve noticed I’m constantly singing MaskerAide’s praises, and they’ve made me a believer once again with their new eye gel patches. These larger sized gels fit comfortably under the eye, and after being worn for 15-30 minutes, leave the eyes looking brighter and refreshed, thanks to ingredients like their 100 Herb Complex and Hyaluronic Acid. If you need a quick refresh while you’re away, throw them on in the morning and feeling like a million bucks in half an hour.
  • Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Solution – Need to take it all off after a busy (or sweaty) day? Pack one of these travel sized bottles of Bioderma’s famed micellar water. A quick swipe or two of this lightweight solution removes makeup and leaves the skin feeling fresh & clean!
  • Stila Perfect Me, Perfect Hue Eye & Cheek Palette – Cut down on the makeup you pack with this multi-tasking palette. Complete with a 4 shadows, a liner shade, and two blushes, you have almost everything you need for a complete face, in neutral hues. Toss a BB cream & mascara in your bag, and you’ll be good to go!

What do you like to pack when going away?

Ahh 2013 – it’s a new year, and that means it’s time for a fresh start.  I’ve got some beauty resolutions that will help you get this year off to a beautiful start.

1.  Keep it Clean – this should already be on your list, but in case it’s not, I wanted to remind you how important it is to regularly clean your makeup brushes to keep them in good shape and to keep them safe.  After continued use, they get dirty which isn’t fun, but they also get tons of bacteria built up on them.  This bacteria can not only cause breakouts, but can also contaminate your products.  I had a health scare a couple of years ago when I was dealing with MRSA – since then, I’ve been very careful about washing my brushes to help prevent any flareups as it so easy for bad bacteria to get built up in them.  Another good reason to keep them clean?  You can prevent colour mixing when using different shades of makeup, as the residue left behind from them can transfer when applying a new shade.  My suggestion?  Try washing once a week with warm water and baby shampoo to get everything out.  Once you’ve washed, give them a light dry using a hand towel, and lay them flat to dry.

If you’re in a hurry or looking for a faster way to clean, take a look at Beauty So Clean – they have a great conditioning brush spray made with alcohol and emollients which quickly dissolves makeup residue – all it takes is a spray and a wipe on a paper towel and your brushes will be left clean (and they dry extremely quickly!).  They also have makeup sanitizing products which are perfect for banishing bacteria buildup from all of your products.

2.Try Something New – A new year is the perfect time to try a little beauty dare.  I’m not saying you need to do anything crazy if you’re on the more conservative side – it’s just fun to add a little new life to your beauty routine.  Try a new shade of eyeshadow you’ve always been a little scared to test out.  Throw on some bright pink lipstick.  Life’s too short to not take risks, and adding a little fun to your beauty routine is a great (and non-permanent!) way to freshen up your look.

3. Even It Out – Looking great any day starts with having a smooth, even base, and with all of the BB and CC creams on the market today, it couldn’t be easier.  Throw on a layer of one of these and you’ll walk out of the house looking fresh and feeling great.  The arrival of CC creams is something that I’m really excited about – they’re lighter and have better coverage than BB cream, giving skin an even brighter appearance (can you say hangover helper?).  I’m looking forward to trying out Annabelle’s new CC Perfecting Base and CC Pressed Powder (I’m already a huge fan of their BB Cream), which will both be available later in January.

4.  Get Glowing – I know, there are still a lot of sun worshippers out there, but I think we’re all finally starting to realize just how bad sun exposure is for us.  As if premature ageing isn’t enough (sun spots and wrinkles?  No thank you), we also run the risk of sunburns and skin cancer.  Just because we want to keep our skin safe doesn’t mean we can’t have an amazing year round glow.  There are some amazing self tanners and bronzers out there now to keep us from looking like Casper (not that fair skin isn’t gorgeous as well – I just know I get tired of rocking a fairly nice shade of alabaster around this time of year).  Check out St. Tropez for a fab fake tan – and The Body Shop will give you a gorgeous glow with their Honey Bronze Shimmering Bronze Oil.

5.  Feed Your Skin – Hot off the tails of the holiday season, and with the cold weather providing some serious issues, it’s time to give your skin a little bit of TLC so you can put your best face forward in 2013.  Cleansing, moisturizing and a little extra work (treatments and a few extra glasses of water a day will go a long way) will help you maintain fresh, clear skin.  Your skin is the base of any look, and you need it to look and feel amazing.  A couple of products to help you get there?  Check out Maskeraide’s amazing masks to detoxify and Korres Quercetin & Oak Anti-Ageing Night Cream to give your skin the moisture it deserves.

Will you be adding any of these to your list?  What are your other beauty resolutions?

I’m a longtime lover of facial masks, and when I started hearing about the new Canadian line Maskeraide – which proudly creates “serious skin care for fabulous lifestyles” – I couldn’t wait to get my hands on their masks.  I’m personally used to using clay masks, and when I found out that these were sheet masks I was intrigued. Unsure of what this is? Maskeraide describes a sheet mask as “a special type of facial mask made from a thin fiber sheet that is cut to contour to your face. The fiber mask is soaked in a highly concentrated serum that is infused with vitamins and nutrients.” They’ve created 6 different masks to tailor to 6 different needs.

I know, we look a little crazy, but it's totally worth it.

Each mask begins with an Argan Oil based serum full of vitamins and nutrients, then specially formulated ingredients are added to target specific concerns (each mask targets a different area).  They use 2 different types of serums in their masks – cream and liquid – cream based masks are better for the evening before bed, while the liquid based masks are lighter and great during the day before applying your makeup! Plus, the masks are free of parabens, harsh dyes and artificial fragrances, so you know that you’re not putting anything bad on your skin and in your body.

The 6 different kinds of masks they’ve created are All Nighter (awake, replenish and refresh), Detox Diva (cleanse, exfoliate and detoxify), I Don’t Wanna Grow Up (lift, firm and soften fine lines), Beauty Rest’ore (restore, regenerate and repair), Weather Warrior (calm, soothe and heal) and Pre Party Prep (brighten, prime and energize).

I knew I was going to fall in love as soon as I saw the packaging, which is was too cute. Of course, I couldn’t base my review solely on the packaging, and I really did enjoy using these sheet masks. The mask is really simple to apply, it doesn’t go anywhere, and it doesn’t create a mess.  I think my favourite part of applying these was the cooling sensation I felt as soon as I put them on.  I found that you can even store them in the fridge to enhance this – it’s really relaxing and soothing.  I also found that these masks really worked.  I noticed results as soon as I took them off.  My favourite had to be the Detox Diva – my skin felt so smooth and soft after I took it off, I felt like I’d just gotten an amazing facial. Another fave?  Pre Party Prep – I found this really was perfect before a night out – it left my skin perfectly prepped for my makeup!
