Have you ever wanted to try the ombré lip? I’ll admit I’ve always been intrigued by the look, but I’ve seen some major fails that have made me stay away – until now! This past weekend, I stopped by the Shopper’s Drug Mart #LipsAndScents beauty gala at the Sherway Gardens Beauty Boutique location, where I had a chance to chat with some of the beauty advisors and learned how to achieve the perfect ombré.

I had a chance to chance with beauty expert Sim during the #SDMBeautyGala, and she walked my through the steps to get the perfect red ombré lip, some of which were a little surprising – they worked unbelievably well to get this look. Want to give it a try? Follow these steps and it will be easy!

  1. Start by prepping the links. Use a lip scrub to buff off dry skin and resurface your lips. Afterwards, apply lip balm and let it sit for 2-3 minutes to absorb. Blot your lips with a tissue to absorb excess moisture (if you’re going with a matte lip).
  2. Apply a coat of your chosen lip colour. Sim matched me up with Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipstick in Infrared Matte. She suggests starting with this to give the liner something to adhere to.
  3. Here’s where things get interesting. Take a brown eyeliner (yes, eyeliner), like Lise Watier Smoky Kohl Velours in Brun Velours, and line the lips, putting extra emphasis on the corners of the lips.
  4. Apply a second coat of your lipstick, being careful to blend the liner into the colour so that it fades in. Blot with a tissue to set.
  5. Finish the look off with a bit of highlighting. Dab a lip brush into a highlighting powder, like Shiseido’s Face Color Enhancing Trio in PK1 – she blended together the top two shades), tap it off, and apply to the inner center of the top and bottom lip to add a beautiful highlight.

Here in Toronto we finally got a glimpse of spring this past week – I swear, everyone flocked to the patios in t-shirts… Only to be sorely disappointed when it proceeded to snow (SNOW!) the next day.  The warm weather is really taking its sweet time to show up, so I’m turning once again to new summer beauty collections to help me feel the warmth.  Today’s collection is one that particularly turns up the heat – the Lise Watier Eden Tropical Collection for Summer 2014.  Between the lush, tropical packaging and hot shades I’m drooling over this collection and can’t wait to put it to use.

Go deep into the heart of a mysteriously exotic world to find a collection of lush colours that evoke the hues of a tropical paradise.

Lise Watier Eden Tropical Bronzing Powder ($38, Limited Edition) – This bronzing powder is, hands down, my favourite part of the collection.  How could you have a tropical-themed collection without a gorgeou bronzing powder?  I love the fact that this bronzer has a matte finish – while I can appreciate a bit of shimmer to add more of a sun-kissed look, matte bronzers tend to blend in better (and don’t shine a spotlight on imperfections).  I love everything about this – the gorgeous exotic motif (which seems almost aztec to me) and the beautiful combination of the bronzing powder and peachy blush which work really well together.  I also find that this shade can even work on fair skinned girls like myself as long as you start off light and build up the colour.

Lise Watier 24 HRS Gel Liner ($25, Limited Edition) – Here’s the deal.  I love gel liners. One of my absolute go-tos is L’Oreal’s version and I love it to pieces.  Needless to say, I was excited when I saw this one.  It’s best applied with an angled eyeliner brush for the most precise results.  It does apply smoothly, but I wasn’t completely sold on the consistency and results. It was nice, but not the best; I prefer a gel liner that is a bit more creamy to the touch.

Lise Watier Ombre Souffle Supreme in Tinkerbell ($24) – This shadow, on the other hand, I can get behind.  I actually haven’t had a chance to experience the Ombre Souffle Supreme shadows in the past and was pleasantly surprised with the texture.  Granted, with souffle in the title I should have known what I was in for, but was still really happy with the spongey, puffy feel of this.  It led to smooth application with lots of colour payoff and minimal fallout, along with a beautiful shimmery finish.

There are still 2 shopping days until Christmas, which means it’s time to finish up if you haven’t done so already!  If you have a beauty lover or someone who is looking to experiment with their look a little, palettes are the perfect gift to share.  I’ve rounded up a few of my favourites to help make your shopping trip a little easier.

makeup palette, naked3, smashbox, lise watier jardin de givre, make up for ever, mark

1. Urban Decay Naked3 Palette ($62) – of course, no palette round up would be complete without including this year’s most anticipated release, the Naked3 Palette.  The newest addition to the fan-favourite Naked collection, this palette features beautiful warm rose-hued neutral shades that will look good on anyone.

2. Smashbox Full Exposure Palette ($58) – I first came across this palette at a Murale preview earlier this month and was instantly obsessed.  I will further this by saying that after coming home I showed this to my roommate who actually went out and bought it the next day.  This palette is full of beautiful neutrals, and is made even more special by the fact that it includes a matte and shimmery version of each shade, plus a guide that shows how to get the perfect look for each eye shape.

3. Make Up For Ever Midnight Glow Palette ($42) – This palette is just so pretty, and so perfect for a party.  These 6 shades, with a diamond finish, are great for creating a beautiful night out look – help them ring in the new year with eyes to die for!

4. Lise Watier Jardin de Givre Palette ($45) – I recently wrote about this palette and have been in love ever since – I’ve been wearing it almost every day!  The shades are shimmery and gorgeous.  Take a look at swatches here.

5. mark. Holiday Exclusive On The Dot Lip Color Compact ($18) – Of course, we can’t forget about the lips!  This cute little compact features 9 different glossy colours that cover neutral lips to those that make a statement!

Leave it to Lise Watier to come up with a stunning, perfectly spot-on collection to celebrate the holidays.  Bathed in elegance, it conjures up images of shimmering snow and frost, with a motif of luxe white feathers lending the perfect backdrop.  The Lise Watier Jardin de Givre Winter 2013 Collection is opulent and rich, with a focus on bright skin and a sparkly eye.  Take a look at some of the items from the collection below.

Lise Watier Palette Jardin de Givre ($45, LE) – Easily the crown jewel of this collection, I find this palette to be breathtaking.  Full of shimmer and sparkle (ooh, the white shade top left!), I was barely able to hold myself back when I saw it – I wanted to dive right in but managed to maintain self control and refrained until I was able to take photos.  This palette has a bit of everything; some more neutral shades to build up a light look or to switch to something more smokey, and two gorgeous jewel tones for when you need to add an element of drama to your look.  It also contains a creamy black liner to help define your lids.  Out of the entire collection, I think this is the absolute must have.

Lise Watier Jardin de Givre Illuminating Powder, Lise Watier Jardin de Givre Powder, Lise Watier Winter 2013, Lise Watier Winter 2013 Powder

Lise Watier Jarding de Givre Illuminating Powder ($36, LE) – The combination of the slightly bronze shade and the pearlescent shade in this powder gives the perfect luminescent glow for your skin.  Excellent for highlighting the cheekbones (and adding slight colour) and the decollete, this powder is definitely a nice add-on for a night out.

Lise Watier Rouge Sublime Lumiere Lipstick in Frisson

Lise Watier Rouge Sublime Lumiere Lipstick in Frisson ($23, LE – also available in Rouge Satin) – This gorgeous nearly nude lipstick is a great addition to the smouldering eyes that can be created with the Palette Jardin de Givre.  A hint of peach, a bit of a golden glow and creamy texture are your lips’ best friends when it comes to a neutral winter lip.  This lipstick is hydrating so you don’t have to worry about your lips drying out (a big no-no this time of year) and comes with a built in mirror and light to make application on the go even easier.

Lise Watier Smokey Kohl Velours Eyeliner in Violet Velours, Lise Watier Clin D'Oeil False Eyelashes, Lise Watier Smokey Kohl, Lise Watier Jardin de Givre, Lise Watier Eyelner, Lise Watier Eyelashes

We’re once again taking the focus back to the eyes with the Lise Watier Smokey Kohl Velours Eyeliner in Violet Velours ($20, also available in Noir Velours & Brun Velours) and the Lise Watier Clin D’Oeil False Eyelashes ($18). Paired together, these two help to create an intense eye look that will definitely get some second glances.  The liner is smooth and bold, with lots of pigment and strong colour.  It also has a waterproof formula – it took a some work with my makeup remover to get it all off!  I haven’t tried the lashes yet but am looking forward to it.  They’re more natural looking, without too much fringe, and add a ton of length.

Lise Watier Nail Lacquer in Rose Frimas, Lise Watier Rose Frimas, Lise Watier Winter 2013, Lise Watier Jardin de Givre, Lise Watier Nail Lacquer

Lise Watier Nail Lacquer in Rose Frimas ($13, LE – Also available in Blue D’Hiver) – I’m a big fan of Lise Watier lacquers.  From my experience, they offer great colour (I usually only need to apply a coat or two for opaque colour) and have a really nice, smooth texture that applies easily.  This shade is beautiful – nice for adding a little warmth to your tips during the cold winter season.  It also features the signature Lise Watier light cap.

Also available in this collection (something I can’t wait to get my hands on) is the Lise Watier Neiges Moisturizing Shimmer Pearls Parfume – a bottle of scented beads that dissolve into the skin, leaving it with the Neiges scent.  The bottle is beautiful, and I really want to give this one a try.
