love Marc Jacobs eyeliners. The richness of the colour and longevity of wear makes them among my faves when it comes to this category. So, naturally I found myself excited by a new offering from MJ in this category. How do the new Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliners ($25 USD/$31 CAD) live up to my expectations?

Well, let’s just say they’ve really hit the nail on the head with this one. First of all, I’m a big fan of matte liner, which means these are right up my alley. They maintain a beautiful matte finish while providing a creamy, smooth application; the eyeliner glides right onto the skin without any creasing. The formula definitely sets quite quickly, so do any smudging immediately after application. After setting, this liner stays put and LASTS – it’s waterproof and locks into place. After swatching & setting, I rubbed at the lines with my fingers, fabric and tissues and ran them under water and was really impressed by how well they held up. They’re perfect for creating a bold look or using in the waterline.

When it comes to colour, it really doesn’t get any better than this. The line is currently available in 12 shades inspired by the Marc Jacobs’ Resort Collection, and features a selection of deeper shades as well as some bolder colours which are perfect for creating a graphic lid. I’m super impressed by the bold, rich pigments in the liners.

Overall, the long staying power and bold pigmentation of the Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliners make these a total win for me and an easy addition to my eyeliner collection; I’m extremely impressed by the formula and feel and will definitely be keeping these in regular rotation.

Will you be trying these eyeliners out? What are your fave matte liners?

Summer has got to be one of my favourite seasons, both weather-wise and beauty-wise.  I find that it’s so much easier to play with colour and to shake up your beauty routine – anything goes, and the more colour the better.  Allow me to introduce my new best friends for playful summer makeup: Dior Addict It-Lash Mascara and It-Line Eye Liner. These mascaras and liners will of course be available in traditional black (a permanent addition to the line), but will also come in blue, pink and purple (limited edition) for a little more fun.

The new Dior Addict It-Lash Mascara ($32.00 CAD) is a godsend for those of you who love highly pigmented mascara.  The It-Black shade is fantastic, extremely dark and bold.  It definitely adds a nice touch of drama to your lashes.  I found that it easily coated every lash from top to bottom, with the bristles at the end of the brush being able to get in close to the base.  The brush is really nice, with soft, flexible “spiked” bristles.  As for the formula – it’s very long-lasting and lengthening.  I found that it didn’t go anywhere and although it isn’t waterproof I couldn’t wash it off completely and needed to use make up remover to get everything off at the end of the day.

Now for the fun part.  This mascara is also, for a limited time, available in three other shades: It-Blue, It-Pink and It-Purple.  All have a ton of colour and can be worn on their own, but I prefer to layer one over top of the black.  It gives off a more subtle look and gives off a different effect depending on the angle that the lashes are viewed form.  I love the way this looks – I have the blue and have seen the pink/purple versions on others and they are all equally exciting depending on your preferences.  I really can’t wait to get the It-Purple shade!

Dior Addict It-Lash in It-Blue over It-Black. Dior Addict It-Line in It-Black and It-Blue for liner.

The Dior Addict It-Line ($32.00 CAD) liners are the perfect companion to It-Lash.  Also available in It-Black (permanent addition), It-Blue, It-Pink and It-Purple (limited editions), these are the perfect way to up the colour factor.  These liners have a very fine tip to allow for precise application.  As with any liquid liner, you may need a little practice to really get a hold of your technique, but once you have it down these are a great option.  The coloured versions really pack a punch.  The colour is electrifying and bold.

The liquid formula is easy to work with and applies extremely smoothly.  It dries quickly and has a bit of shine to it.  I found that the black liner does tend to last a bit longer than the coloured versions from my experience so far, but both do have a long-life span.  Like the mascara, I remover was needed to take it off completely.dior addict it-line, dior addict liquid liner, dior addict color liner, dior addict it-line it-blue, dior addict it-line it-pink, dior addict it-line it-purple, dior addict purple liner, dior addict pink liner, dior addict blue liner

On Tuesday night I was lucky enough to be invited to the Trump Tower (which is ah-mazing) in Toronto for L’Oreal Paris’ Holiday Party + product launch, where I was able to chat with some other Toronto area beauty bloggers and get a sneak peek at the 80+(!) new products that L’Oreal will be launching early next year.  Eddie Malter and Eric del Monaco, L’Oreal’s official makeup and hair artists, were also in attendance to chat and give us some great beauty tips – the swag bag also included a 20% off card for del Monaco’s salon, so I know where I’m going to be going for my next haircut! We were able to indulge in some snacks and drinks (candy cane cocktails, anyone?) and I think we all got a little lost in chocolate heaven with the chocolate bar that was set up – seriously, it even had chocolate Louboutins.  Read on to learn about my favourite new products + see pics!

Chocolate Louboutin

The best part of the night definitely had to be a sneak peak at the new L’Oreal Paris 2013 products.  There was a little bit of everything – makeup, skincare and haircare.  I already got a taste of some of their new skincare innovations a couple of weeks ago, and I could’t wait to see what else they have in store for us.  A few standouts that I can’t wait to try out:

– Colour Riche Eyeshadow Quads ($11.99 – available January 2013) – available in 20 different combinations are absolutely beautiful, and you’ll be able to find one to suit any style.  The shadows are made up of micro-milled pigments so that the will go on silky and smooth.  I fell in love with the Hollywood Icon quad – it contains some gorgeous purple shades.

– Infallible The Super Slim 12H Liner ($10.99 – available January 2013) – I’m already a huge fan of the Infallible gel liner, and was really excited to see that L’Oreal has added a felt liner to the lineup.  This liner has a .4mm tip which is perfect for applying a thin, precise line – great for winged liner.  It really lasts too, without fading or smudging. Love!

– Elnett Satin Heat Sprays ($9.99 – available December 2012) – I’m an Elnett user, and I think it great that they’re adding a different kind of hairspray to the Elnett family. This hairspray comes in 3 formulas – for straight, volume and curl styles – and is non-aerosol.  Don’t worry, it still has the classic fine micro-diffusion spray we’ve come to love.  Not only that, but it acts as a heat-protection spray as well, protecting from heat up to 230 degrees!

– Colour Riche Caresse Shine Stain Lipcolour ($12.99 – available January 2013) – I’m loving these glosses – they are extremely lightweight and provide subtle, glossy shine which looks great.  They also stain the lips so the colour lasts longer. These will be available in 12 shades.

– Color Genius iPhone App – I know, this isn’t a product, but it’s so awesome that it really needed to be included in this list – L’Oreal has created an iPhone app that will change the way you coordinate your makeup with your outfit.  How does it work?  Snap a quick pic of your outfit and the app will pull colours from it that you can choose to match with.  You then choose your mood between day and night, and decide if you want to Match It, Blend It or Clash It.  The app then gives you the perfect L’Oreal nail polish, eyeshadow and lipstick shades to go perfectly with your outfit.  Amazing, right? You can download it here or by searching for Color Genius in the App Store.

Those are only a few of the new offerings L’Oreal will have for early 2013 – others include new Colour Riche Nail Colour shades, Colour Riche Serum Anti-Aging Lipcolour, Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara, Voluminous 24H Black Smoke Mascara (a variation of my current favourite mascara), True Match Super-Blendable Crayon Concealer,  Visible Lift Colour Blush (creamy, but still powdery, and so pretty!), Age Perfect Instant Glow BB Cream, Ideal Skincare (includes cleansers, cleansing cloths and lotions), Power Moisture Haircare and Healthy Look Creme Colour Gloss Haircolour.

Hi beauties!  I have another beauty subscription service to share with you – the Starlooks Starbox!  This box runs a little bit differently from most that you’re used to – the products that you receive are actually Starlooks products (you can take a look at some of their products here) – they’re nice and affordable.  You can subscribe to this box for $15.00 per month (and a side note – if you see products you really like in past Starlboxes, you can actually order past boxes on their website).  Each box includes 3-4 full size products, which is great.  I received my first box yesterday, and couldn’t wait to share, so take a look and let me know what you think!

Starlooks Gold Dust Eyeliner

Eyeliner Pencil in Gold Dust ($8) – This isn’t a colour I would have picked out for myself normally, but the colour is a really pretty light gold that would be perfect for lining under your eyes.  It goes on really smoothly which I love.

Eye Shadow Pigment in Posh/Peddle

Eye Shadow Pigment in Posh/Peddle ($12) –  This is so pretty!  I instantly fell in love with this pigment.  I love purple eyeshadows, and this is the most gorge colour – it goes on really beautifully, leaving highly pigmented colour.

Lipstick in Masquerade

Lipstick in Masquerade ($11) – at first I thought this lipstick was going to be a little too orange-y for me, but it was a nice, rich red once applied.  It goes on nice and creamy and lasts pretty long too – I will definitely be wearing this!

Masquerade Eye Stickers

Masquerade Eye Tattoos (Bonus!)  – These are really pretty – I didn’t get a chance to try them out yet because I wanted to put this up quickly for you guys but will let you know when I do.  The neat thing about these is that they are applied just like the temporary tattoos everyone used to put on when they were little, so you don’t have to worry about them peeling off.  Can’t wait to give them a try!

Quartz Crystals

A neat thing they include in these boxes are these little quartz crystals, meant to attract energy and help you to maintain focus.  They suggest collecting them and keeping them in a glass jar to create a brush holder – neat idea!

If you’re interested in signing up for Starbox, you can do so right on their website here, and I’m going to suggest doing it before December 1st, the cutoff date for the December box, because they included this card with a really interesting little bit of information on it in this box:

What do you think?  Will you give Starbox a try?
