Ahhh. Spring has finally sprung; the trees are blooming, the sunshine is returning and the warmer weather is on its way. It means that it’s time to enjoy long weekends & cottage trips. Today I’m sharing my long weekend style essentials and some of the cute #DixieDeals I picked up at the Dixie Outlet Mall. These pieces will definitely be in heavy rotation for me this season and into the summer.
Since things are still warming up a little, a cute jacket (pictured from Urban Planet, $30) is an absolute must. I love having a lightweight jacket that I can just throw on over anything to protect from the wind and rain when I’m out. It isn’t too heavy but adds that little layer of protection from the elements and inevitable mosquitos.
For cooler nights spent by a bonfire, you can’t go wrong with a cozy sweater (sweater pictured from Dynamite, $2 – yes, $2). Wrap yourself up in a soft one to keep yourself warm when things get a little chilly. And if you’re like me and plan on spending your spring & summer going on adventures – there’s never been a better time than Canada’s 150th to get out and explore – grab a pair of sneakers (sneakers pictured from Urban Planet, $12) to keep your feet protected and comfortable.
Printed shorts (shorts pictured from GUESS, on sale for $32) are always a great option. Whether you go with a pattern or print (like these flamingos I’m so enamored with), they add a little personality to any outfit and they go great with a sweater. Pair them with a cute, loose tank (top pictured from Winners, $17) and you’ve got a perfect sunny day outfit.
Of course, if you’re planning on a weekend getaway you’ll need a cute bag that can hold everything you need. A large weekender bag (bag pictured from Call It Spring, on sale for $40) doubles as a purse and is great for packing your clothes, toiletries and anything else you need for a road trip, beach day or cottage escape.
(Because I’m a total goof)
What do you like to bring with you on a weekend getaway?
Spring has finally sprung! Which means it’s time for me to shake off the dust from hibernating for the winter, and start being a little bit more of a human being. Spring for me means spending time with friends, especially this year; my boyfriend and I are going to be getting a place together next month (yay adult things) and we really want to make the most of our place and be able to enjoy having company over. That being said, I’m sharing some of my entertaining on a budget essentials with you, to hopefully help make your next get together a little more fun!
For me, there are four things that I think you really need to make sure your next shindig is perfect – plus some of my amazing finds from Dixie Outlet Mall that set up the perfect ambiance:
Great Snacks – Is it really a party if there isn’t any cheese? For me, having tasty snacks available is an absolute must (like these amazing pepperettes & aged cheddars from TJs Meats and crunchy pita chips I snagged at Winners). Whether it’s something simple like a cheese tray and chips & dip or a fun app that you found on Pinterest, your guests will thank you.
Perfect Serving Ware – I totally believe that good snacks taste that much better when they’re displayed nicely. A gorgeous marble slab or wooden plank (I found this one at Winners) makes for a great cheese board, and quirky, clean dishes (Hello – how cute is this pineapple one from Urban Planet?) are perfect for housing bite-sized snacks and chips.
Killer Décor – Make sure you add some decorations to add a little life to the party – and if they’re Instagrammable, it never hurts 😉 Before you know it, you’ll become renowned for your entertaining skills. If you decide to go with a theme, try hunting down fun little things that add to it, or freshen up a little with cute items. These little faux plants from Dollarama are super cheap but look so lux, while this pretty diffuser from Fruits & Passion adds a little floral flair and fragrance.
Tasty Cocktails – If your guests are planning on imbibing a little, make sure you give them something interesting to drink. My boyfriend and I love coming up with a cool signature cocktail for the evening that we know our friends will enjoy. There are tons of recipes online if you want to find a combination that you know works, or take some time and experiment with some different flavours (aka the fun part) until you find something you like. Make sure you have non-alcoholic versions available for any DDs as well! And of course, as with the snacks, mix them together and serve them in cute glassware (Winners is great for this – I love these cocktail glasses and found super appropriate cocktail napkins to go with them).

I have to start this post off by making an exiting announcement: I’m now an ambassador for Dixie Outlet Mall! I’m sure you’ve seen my posts about Dixie in the past; it’s an outlet mall located in Mississauga (and right around the corner from me, so I do a lot of damage to my wallet there) that has a ton of great stores with amazing prices, which means putting together an outfit on a budget is a snap. Over the next few months, I’ll be serving up fashion inspo and sharing all the amazing #DixieDeals that I snag.
Moving on, my first task as an ambassador was putting together a killer Valentine’s Day date night outfit. To me, the perfect Valentine’s Day outfit is sweet with a hint of sexy, and this is exactly what I wanted when I set out to do a little shopping.
I knew I wanted to find something pretty in pink, and was thrilled when I found this pretty, flowy top at the Forever 21 outlet for only $10.50! After scoring that amazing deal, I knew that finding the rest of my outfit would be a breeze.
I also wanted to find a pink bag to go along with the outfit and knew that Winners would be a great stop to check out next. Of course, this is one of my favourite stores and the Dixie location always has a great selection of new clothing and bags up for grabs. I fell in love with this pink purse from Steve Madden, which was a steal at only $40. It was the perfect match for my top, and while there I found a cute lacy bra and panty set ($20 for both) that also makes a perfect pick for Valentine’s Day.
To finish the outfit off, I decided to head to Urban Planet, where I found these over the knee boots ($45 with a sale) and cute black mini skirt ($15). They add a sexy touch to a feminine outfit and think they fit in perfectly with the look!
What will you be wearing this Valentine’s Day?
The holidays are pretty much here, which means it’s time to get glammed up for all of the celebrations and cocktail parties that are bound to be coming at you from every direction. I find that getting dressed up for the holidays can always be a bit of a challenge, as you’ve just about blown your budget from shopping for presents and don’t want to spend a lot on something new to wear.
Cue Dixie Outlet Mall, a fantastic shopping centre just outside of Toronto that brings together great looks at an even better price. With a fab selection of retailers ranging like Winners, Nine West, and GUESS to choose from, it’s easy to score some amazing deals to fit any style and budget!
Dixie Outlet Mall gave me a bit of a challenge this year – with a $100 gift card in my pocket, I had to put together a gorgeous head-to-toe holiday outfit that would be perfect for all of the parties I’m planning on going to this year. Normally, this might be a bit of a challenge, but I knew that the amazing deals at Dixie would make it easy – and I was right!
Of course, I had to start off at Winners – it’s one of my favourite stores and I know I can find gorgeous pieces there for a fraction of the price I would pay at different retailers. I fell hard for this stunning beaded romper (which came with a $50 price tag) and knew that I had to have it – it was so beautiful and definitely holiday appropriate!
I also picked up these gorgeous shimmery heels from Payless for $27 (keep an eye out for store newsletters – I saved an extra 20% off with a coupon on these beauties that were on sale!) and snagged this lovely bag from Call It Spring for only $21 on Black Friday, when it was an additional 40% off the already reduced price. Don’t you just love a good deal?
I love all of the pieces that I found, and can’t believe I was able to pull this all together for less than $100, but these killer deals made shopping a breeze!
Are you feeling up to the challenge? I’m giving away a $100 gift certificate to Dixie Outlet Mall so that one of you can get glam for the holidays and try your own $100 shopping challenge! Want to take it on? Enter via the form below. Please note that this contest is best for GTA residents as the gift card must be picked up and spent at Dixie Outlet Mall.
Dixie Outlet Mall Shopping Challenge
When the holidays roll around, it’s definitely time to up your style game while sticking to a tight budget – this time of the year can definitely get to be pretty expensive! This year, I decided to do a little shopping at Dixie Outlet Mall to find exactly what I need for the holidays – 3 outfits that will have me covered throughout the week and a half I’m out celebrating, meeting with friends and family & eating too much turkey – without breaking the bank (I spent just over $150 on everything here thanks to some great sales and finds).
Sweater: Urban Planet | Pants: Urban Planet | Heels: Call It Spring
Outfit 1: Everyone needs a fun “ugly” Christmas sweater! I found this one at Urban Planet and fell in love — the light’s on the Christmas tree actually light up, making this a must have for me! I paired it with some black leggings and these shimmering heels from Call It Spring, which ended up going perfectly with all of the outfits I put together – gotta love a versatile shoe!
Stealing treats from the kitchen, in typical fashion. Dress: Winners | Heels: Call It Spring
Outfit 2: For my second outfit, I wanted to find a chic dress to wear to family get togethers & parties. I loved this LBD I found at Winners – the necklace detailing is so pretty and adds a nice dainty touch, while the thin sheer sections add a bit of edge to it!
My boyfriend thinks I look awkward in this photo, and he can deal with it. Dress: Winners | Purse: Call It Spring | Heels: Call It Spring
Outfit 3: For my last outfit (yes, I know it’s similar to the last – I’ve got a thing for LBDs), I wanted a more playful dress; something that can be worn for night’s out with my gal pals & NYE. I found this dress at Winners as well, and loved the crocheted details. The sheer paneling & skirt length that’s a bit shorter than my previous dress made it perfect for an evening out.
What will you be wearing this holiday season?
Also, I just had to share – Sir Poppers decided to join in on my photos:
He decided to play dead in the middle of it
