Do you know what I hate? Clumpy lashes. You know what I mean; you swipe on your mascara only to find chunks of lashes that stick together. I’ll admit I’ve done some silly things to get separation, like taking pointed end tweezers to them to pry my lashes apart. The new COVERGIRL Total Tease Mascara promises long, refined lashes, so I knew I had to try it out.
The mascara, which is available in a few black + brown shades and a deep blue, does a good job of getting in close to the lashes for full coverage. The wand it dual-sided; half features a plastic, spiked brush for even coverage and the other side has a unique detailing tip with longer bristles so you can really separate and “tease” the lashes to their full length potential. I’ll be honest, the first few times I used this mascara the detailing tip freaked me out a bit. I could see it in front of my eye while I was brushing the mascara on, but I quickly got used to it.
In terms of the formula, it nicely coats the lashes and does provide nice lengthening results. You should see some of the pictures I tried to take – my lashes are so long that they actually curl at the top where the hit my eyelid! I love that aspect, but I would have loved to see a bit more volume and fullness. I already have pretty decent length so fullness is something I really like to see in my mascara. If you’re looking for a lengthening mascara though, this is a really great, affordable option; I get results similar to those that I see with Benefit’s Rollerlash Mascara.
When it comes to separation, I found that the classic mascara applicator side of the brush does a really good job on its own of fully coating and separating the lashes, but of course you do end up with small areas where the lashes can slightly clump together. The detailing tip, once you get used to it, does a really great job of separating and spacing out the lashes to help increase fullness of the lashes and give them a more defined look. I also found that this mascara has really great wear time. I can throw it on in the morning and it’s still in place at the end of the day without any flaking or traveling.
Have you tried the COVERGIRL Total Tease Mascara yet? Will you be giving it a try?

I just love a good drugstore find. With the price of some palettes these days getting pretty hefty, I love having a combination of luxury and more budget-friendly picks in my makeup bag; it helps to keep both my wallet and my makeup-loving self happy. The COVERGIRL truNaked Jewels palette ($12.97 CAD) definitely fits into this category, and I’ll tell you why.
First of all, I love a palette that has a bit of colour in it – bolder shadows are always great for mixing into eye looks and for having a bit of fun. This palette has a selection of 8 shadows, including a range of matte, shimmer and sparkly shades. It has a few lighter shades (that are perfect if you’ve ever wanted to be a unicorn princess; hell, who hasn’t?), two bold, pigmented hues (blue and purple), shimmering gold and green shades and a sparkly black.
I really wish that I could have more accurately captured the first shade; it’s hard to see here, but it has this beautiful iridescent look to it with splashes of light pink in the light. It’s a gorgeous highlighting shade that I will definitely be using with other palettes and looks.
The shadows have nice pigment to them, and several shades that make for great highlighting (see the 1st, 3rd and 7th shadows). They are really blendable and build up to heavier colour if needed. They do tend to fade a bit throughout the day, so I suggest starting with a primer and finishing with a setting spray to ensure longer wear.
The shimmer in a few of the shadows is gorgeous – nice and soft, bringing a bit of a multi-tone look to them, which I love. The boldness of the purple and blue shadows also make them favourites for me; I can definitely see myself using them to add depth to many different looks.
What do you think of the COVERGIRL truNaked Jewels palette? Do you have any other jewel tones you like?

It’s no secret that I have a major love for lip products; a good lipstick can take you from a bad mood to a good one, instill confidence, and make you feel full on glam. Read on to see my top lipstick picks for a kiss-worthy pout (just in time for Valentine’s Day).
The Revlon Ultra HD Lipcolors have quickly become a favourite of mine. They combine gorgeous colour, a smooth finish, and deep hydration into one shiny little package. They’re unbelievably comfortable on and their slightly sweet scent makes them perfectly kiss-worthy.
In the mood for a sweet treat without the guilt? Reach for a tube of COVERGIRL Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Balm. Call me crazy (or a beauty junkie), but I’ll take a tube of lippy over candy any day. Unless I can have both… Then I’ll take both.
Sometimes, you’re just in the mood for something light that enhances the look of your lips, which is where these balms come in. The sweetly-scented balms give the lips a fairly sheer coat of colour with one layer, adding a subtle hue to your pout along with a hint of sheen – perfect for days when you’re going for a more natural look or just want to add a touch of colour.
And, of course, the colour doesn’t come without its benefits. The lip balms are enriched with grapeseed oil, avocado butter and Vitamins C & E, which bathe the lips in a rich coat of moisture. They’re lightweight and feel great on the lips, gently helping to repair and restore moisture for a healthy look. You can honestly feel the softness of the oils on your lips as soon as your apply them, giving them a nice smooth feel. I’ve been dealing with dry lips for the past few days as the weather jumps around here, and these babies have been working overtime to help (successfully) restore them.
I really love how these feel once applied, and the hint of colour that they give the lips; these have recently become a go-to for me (and by recently, I really mean since earlier this year), with one stashed in my purse, on my desk and in my work bag to keep me going. I love the fact that when you’re on the go, you can give your lips a quick swipe for an instant boost without having to worry about precise application, as you would with lipstick.
The COVERGIRL Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Balms are also available in 10 sweet shades/scents depending on your mood and the level of colour you’re looking for.
Have you tried these out?

Shiny skin? I’m definitely not a fan, and the humidity we’ve had as of late has definitely not been working out in my favour. Follow these steps to help you skip the shine!
Switch up your routine
Skin needs change in the summer as we move away from dry weather and spend more time dealing with humidity and heat. Try switching to an oil-free, lightweight cleanser like Garnier’s SkinActive Clean+ Shine Control Cleansing Gel ($11, available at drugstores), that helps to control shine, and opt for a gel moisturizer that will keep your skin hydrated without weighing it down, like Philosophy’s Take a Deep Breath Oil-Free Oxygenating Cream ($49).
Add some balance
Try using a natural toner to help balance your skin and prevent overproduction of oil. Mix one part apple cider vinegar with one part water and apply to your skin with a cotton pad after cleansing for a quick DIY treatment.
Prep for the day
Give your skin the perfect base at the beginning of the day by starting off with a mattifying primer or gel to stop shine where it starts and keep it at bay. We love Benefit’s The POREfessional Matte Rescue Invisible Finish Mattifying Gel ($36). When it comes to coverage, stick to oil-free foundation or BB cream, like CoverGirl’s Clean Matte BB Cream ($8, available at drugstores) to even out your skin tone and prevent the shine from peeking through.
Keep your skin feeling hydrated and refresh with a setting mist, like Shiseido’s Ibuki Quick Fix Mist ($32). When you feel shine start to creep up or your skin is feeling a little worn, give your face a quick spritz to rehydrate, cancel out shine and re-set your makeup.
Nix the grease
Feeling a little shiny throughout the day? Keep an emergency product or two in your purse for quick touch ups whenever you need them. Sephora’s Cooling Mint Blotting Papers ($10) are perfect for soaking up any grease that happens to pop up, and fit nicely into a bag or clutch. Lightly blot a sheet on your face where you need a little help.
How do you keep shine at bay?
