Let’s face it; life can be pretty unpredictable and when you’re constantly on the go it can get pretty difficult to take a little time to yourself. Since getting back from Costa Rica a week ago my life has been crazy – I’ve barely been home and have had so much on the go. My skin definitely took a bit of a beating between the flight home and a bit of hectic work and I knew I was going to have a hard time giving it the time that it needs. Luckily for me, AVEENO recently came out with a couple of products that really helped to nurse it back to health.

A facial isn’t always in the cards for all of us – between the associated costs and taking the time out of our schedules to actually go in and get it done, it’s not necessarily the most feasible thing. I can’t remember the last time I had one, but these new products from AVEENO have given me a chance to reap the benefits of one without the time commitment. The Positively Radiant 60 Second In-Shower Facial and Overnight Hydrating Facial are both super easy to add to your routine and beyond simple to use!

The AVEENO Positively Radiant 60 Second In-Shower Facial has become a real favourite of mine. It takes, yes, 60 seconds, and works quickly to refresh the skin. It uses the steam from the shower to open the pores, allowing for deep cleansing. I like to apply it while I wash my body or shave, letting it get to work, before rubbing it in to take advantage of the exfoliation and rinsing. My skin feels really clean afterwards and never dry.

Afterwards, I love to follow this up with the Positively Radiant Overnight Hydrating Facial. It feels really rich and creamy upon application; I actually apply a thick layer and let it sit on my skin for a couple of minutes to absorb as much on its own as it can before rubbing it in. It uses AVEENO’s Active Naturals Total Soy Complex to give my skin a deep level of hydration. The result? I wake up to skin that’s glowing and really refreshed, giving it most of the benefits of a facial while I sleep. Does it get any better than that?

With my life being all over the place & constantly on the go, these two products have become staples for me especially when I’m in a real rush. How else do you pamper yourself when you don’t have a lot of time?

Try as hard as we might, our hair is going to suffer from various forms of damage.  Between heat styling, colouring & environmental factors, our hair tends to take quite the beating – ahh, the price of beauty.  While yes, there are many things we can do to prevent this damage from occurring in the first place, let’s face it – we’re going to see some forms of damage.  Once this has happened, we find ourselves left with split ends, dullness and strands that are prone to breakage.  At this point, it’s impossible to completely reverse the damage, but there are definitely products out there that can help to bring our hair back to a healthier state.

The Aveeno Positively Nourishing Hair Care Collection was designed to combine nature and science for a line of products that helps to restore damaged hair to a state that is full of life and vibrancy.  It even claims that it can start to make an impact in just three washes with noticeable results.  The line’s effectiveness comes from the newest Aveeno Active Naturals technology, the Nourishing Wheat Complex (which contains a blend of Wheat Germ Oil and Wheat Protein), which helps to target & repair the weakest parts of hair.  The line contains several products which aim to repair air from different areas depending on the user’s needs.

I’ve had a chance to try out the Moisturize Shampoo and Conditioner, which was designed to moisturize dry, damaged hair.  First of all, let me start off by saying that these smell fantastic, which is a big check in the list of things I look for in a shampoo/conditioner duo – they just have to smell great since the smell is going to last after.  The shampoo also lathers really well, and a little goes a long way.  After using these products (which are safe for colour treated hair – thumbs up!), I can say that my hair does feel noticeably softer and stronger.  My hair does go through colouring quite often due to the quick fade time of my red, and it definitely takes its toll.  I find quite a bit of breakage, and this has been happening less frequently since I started using the line.  I also had a friend who has hair that is much more damaged try this out, and she (very happily) found similar results.  She said that she definitely felt a bit of a change in her hair texture and the amount of breakage that she normally experiences.

These two products have done well so far to provide results, and I’m really interested in seeing what the long term effects of usage will be – I’ve got my friend continuing to use this and given the state of her damage prior to usage, I’m especially interested in seeing how this affects her.

Have you tried any of the products from the Aveeno Positively Nourishing collection?

Valentine Lips

Valentine’s Day is the one day of the year when you want to make sure your pout is looking (and feeling) perfect, for a couple of reasons I’m sure you can guess.  Between making your lips soft and looking cute, you’re going to be ready for tomorrow, so I’ve got a couple of tips and products to help.

First off, you’re going to want to start by prepping the lips so they feel soft.  Exfoliation is key for getting rid of dead skin and making sure they’re nice and smooth.  You can do this by rubbing a toothbrush in circular motions along your lips, or you can use a lip scrub to get rid of any flakes and to leave your lips feeling moisturized.  Earlier, I posted a tutorial for a DIY lip scrub, which is so easy to make – you can view the tutorial here.

Next up is the big decision – what to wear on your lips.  I’m going to recommend sticking with either a cute glossy balm or a stain – something that will look nice, and you won’t have to worry about transfer to your Valentine, which I’m sure they’ll like.

Balms are great for softening your lips and will even add a bit of a glossy sheen.  My picks for Valentine’s Day – The Body Shop Chocomania Lip Butter (it smells like brownie batter and is very hydrating) and Aveeno Essential Moisture Lip Conditioner (provides amazing moisture – my lips feel super smooth when I put it on!).

A stain is perfect for Valentine’s Day because it will add really nice colour to your lips and will last for hours without any worry of transfer.  My pick: Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain – I love these stains for their gorgeous colours and staying power.  One little note – stains can leave your lips a little dry as they just stain the lips, they don’t offer any moisturizing properties, so you may want to add the included balm on top.

And if you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day spoiling yourself, I say have a little fun and rock a bold lip colour like Annabelle Twistup in Flirtini!

Happy Valentine’s Day beauties!  What are your top lip picks for today?

Tresemme Fresh Stat Dry Shampoo (56 g sample – full size $5.99/161 g) + Tresemme Split Remedy Sachet (9 ml samples – full size $5.99/700 ml) – I have to admit, I’m not the biggest fan of Tresemme products as I haven’t had fantastic results with them in the past, but I am a huge supporter of dry shampoo and am willing to give this one a try.  The split remedy sachets will come in handy as well – my poor hair is in need of some serious TLC right now.

LouLou Tips: -Mist some dry shampoo on to give your ‘do a little sexy bedhead texture.

– Let your hair soak in this conditioner’s benefits by leaving it on for a few minutes before rinsing.

Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer (FULL SIZE – $22.99) and Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (FULL SIZE – $22.99) – I love Aveeno products – you always know you’re going to get exactly what you expect with them.  The Ultra-Calming lotion helps to soothe irritation due to dry skin – I wish I had this last week after spending a few hours skating outside!  I’m really excited about the tinted moisturizer – I’ve been meaning to try some for a while now, and this is said to improve skin’s radiance.  Bonus?  Both contain SPF 30 to help protect the skin.

LouLou Tips: – Mix a drop of the Ultra-Calming Moisturizer with your favourite liquid foundation for a luminous complexion.

– Smooth this tinted moisturizer all over your face, making sure to blend it carefully along your jawline for a flawless finish.

Avon Lip Radiance in Silver Foil (FULL SIZE) – an assortment of Avon products went out in the boxes this month – I received the Lip Radiance lip gloss which I’m definitely happy about – this gloss is sheer and glossy.

LouLou Tip: The number one makeup rule is always pick one feature to emphasize (eyes or lips) and keep the rest simple.

Revlon Nail Enamel in Craving Coral (FULL SIZE – $5.99) – I love Revlon polishes – they go on nicely and last really well.  Not only that, but this colour is gorge – bright flaming red.

LouLou Tip: Nail art is all the rage right now!  Get creative by painting each nail a different colour or adding contrast at the tips.

GlossyBox Lashes (FULL SIZE – $12.50) – Yay!  Another GlossyBox exclusive item!  These lashes pack some serious drama (they actually remind me of these ones from Eylure’s new Katy Perry line) – I’m not too sure I’ll be wearing them anytime soon, but I’m going to try to pull them out when I want to add some oomph to my look.

LouLou Tip: Dress up your gaze with false lashes!  Simply run a bit of glue along the edge, press them on at the base of your natural fringe to set them, and voila!

Another little bonus this month?  50 subscribers received a necklace from the Nobia jewelery collection, but the rest of us still got a little treat with a cute pair of jeweled studs.

I’d have to say this month’s box was really quite fantastic – 5 full size products + a nice little gift – definitely works for me! If you want to subscribe, you can do so here – use the code GLOSSY8 to save 10%!

Yesterday I received my April GlossyBox, and I must say I am very, very satisfied – I would even say that this is my favourite out of all the boxes I’ve received so far. Take a look!

As a little bonus, a sample of Marcelle’s BB Cream was included in this month’s box.  If you haven’t heard about it yet, you can check out my previous post about it here.

Now let’s get to the good stuff:

Wella Brilliance Treatment and Conditioner (25 & 30 mL sample size – $13.99/150 mL and $13.99/250 mL) – I have been a fan of Wella products for years – haven’t tried and recently so I’m looking forward to using these!  Cool fact – they actually contain diamond dust!

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer (FULL SIZE – 120 mL/$22.99) – I’ve said before that I like Aveeno products, and this is no different – they’re lightweight and gentle, perfect for mosturizing.

Elizabeth Grant Golden Angel Bath & Shower Gel (FULL SIZE – 240 mL/$20.00) – This gel smells delicious – nice and sweet but not overpowering.  I’ve heard of a couple of other scents being received as well.

Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara (FULL SIZE – $12.50) – I haven’t yet seen this mascara, which is exciting as I LOVE trying out new products, especially mascara.  It has a skinny brush with plastic bristles which are going to be perfect for defining lashes.

All in all, a pretty terrific box, especially with 3 full size products included! Can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next month!

Don’t forget, you can save $1.50 off your first GlossyBox by using the code GLOSSY8!
