handyman

Hi everyone – hope you’re having a fantastic weekend!  This isn’t something I would normally do but I would love a little hand here.  I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with the show Canada’s Handyman Challenge, but my Uncle Michael is currently on – he’s made it to the top 6 with the semi-finals coming up this Tuesday!  I’m so proud and impressed with the work he’s done, and it’s been amazing to watch.

Anyways, of course there’s a point to this post.  They currently have a fan favourite vote going on and we’ve been working hard to get him votes.  I would absolutely love it if you could give him a quick vote (you can even do this daily if you’d like) to lend him some more support!  You can vote here – his name is Michael Thomson.  Thank you so much lovelies!

One of the new polish collections for 2014 that has gotten me really excited has to be the OPI Brazil Collection. With the theme being Carnaval of Color, you can only imagine that it would be packed full of bright, tropical shades to get you in a partying mood.  Needless to say, this collection is all that and more.

Comprised of bright shades ranging from bright red to punchy yellow and a variety of nude, earthy tones, this collection perfectly captures the essence of Brazil. “With sun-soaked shores, tropical fruits, and lush flora/fauna, Brazil is such an inspiring locale,” exclaims Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Co-Founder & Executive VP. “I wanted women around the world to embrace the energy and playfulness for which Brazilian women are known. Through the Brazil collection, with shades drenched in color and charged with shine, women can express themselves, showing off their sexy, mysterious, fun and exciting natures.”

I’ve got swatches of two of the shades below for you to check out.

I’m going to go right out and say it – St. Patrick’s Day is one of my favourite days of the year.  It’s right up there with Halloween and Christmas. And my birthday.  Anyways, my love affair with St. Paddy’s blossomed when I was in university (go figure).  My friends and I would go all out every year, making our own t-shirts and going all out clothing, accessory and decorating wise.  Well, this definitely hasn’t changed and I thought I would bring some of the green spirit to the blog this year with a St. Patrick’s Day Nail Tutorial that’s not only super cute but extremely easy – no nail art skills needed for this one!

When I think of St. Paddy’s, visions of green and gold go rushing through my mind, so I thought I would take those two and throw them together for a mani that perfectly suits this fun day.  I like to call it the Pot of Gold Mani, and I’m sure you can understand why!

Products used:

  • Essence Colour & Go Nail Polish in The Green & The Grunge
  • Essence Nail Art Decoration Kit

How to:

  • Start off by applying two coats of green polish to all of your nails except those you want to use for an accent (I usually go with my ring fingers).  Seal with top coat.
  • For the pot of gold accented nails, start off by applying one coat of any gold polish.  You’re not going to see it but it helps in case of gaps between the glitter.
  • Immediately after applying the polish (probably best to do one nail at a time), shake the glitter over the nail, covering it entirely.  I went with the medium-sized round glitter included in the nail decoration kit.
  • Give it a couple of minutes to dry, then brush or knock off any excess glitter that isn’t sticking or that falls off the edge of the nail.
  • Once completely dry, apply a layer of top coat to lock the glitter in.

See?  So easy and so perfect for St. Paddy’s!  What do you think of my St. Patrick’s Day Nail Tutorial?  Will you be celebrating with some green beer?

Between you and I, I’ve got a major nail polish obsession.  I think it’s coming to the point where it verges on hoarding, but every couple of seasons I try to clear some out so it’s not all bad, right?  That being said, I can never resist a new collection.  Case in point – the new Essie Spring 2014 Collection, which I can’t wait to get my nail polish loving hands on.

Murale, Murale spring 2014, murale by shoppers drug mart

If you’re a beauty lover living in or around one of Canada’s major cities (Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver), chances are you’ve made it to a Murale store – or at least heard of it/browsed online.  Shopper’s Drug Mart’s super stylish big sister, Murale is an amazing beauty destination, with modern and beautiful displays and all of the latest beauty must-haves.  I was able to stop in at a spring preview a little while ago and wanted to share some of my favourites from the newest spring launches which are showing up in Murale stores now.

Bioderma Photoderm Self Tanning Spray, Bioderma, Bioderma Photoderm, bioderma murale, murale spring 2014

Bioderma Photoderm Moisturising Tanning Spray ($19.95, available April 2014) – I’m sure most of you have heard of Bioderma before.  Their micellar water is the stuff a beauty blogger’s dreams are made of, which I’m sure gives you an idea of why I’m so excited for this self-tanner.  If this follows in the footsteps of the cleansing water, I can only imagine how well this will perform.  As a pale gal, I’ve always been one to shy away from self-tanners – I have no desire to become a streaky, orange mess – but am definitely going to be giving this one a try.

clarins double serum, clarins double serum complete age control concentrate, clarins spring 2014, clarins serum, clarins murale, murale spring 2014

Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate ($113, available April 2014) – This new intense serum, containing 20 different plant extracts, works deep down on the cellular and tissue levels of the skin to restore youth and vibrancy.

Clarisonic Mia 2, Clarisonic Murale, Murale spring 2014, clarisonic

Clarisonic Mia 2 Sonic Facial Cleansing Brush ($175, available April 2014) – Yes!  The Clarisonic is coming to Murale, which is amazing news.  I’m obsessed with my Aria.  My skin has never felt better and I’ve seen big changes since I’ve started using it.  Well, the Clarisonic family will be even more accessible than ever once it hits Murale shelves.  Oh, and did I mention Shoppers Optimum points??

Deborah Lippman Maniac, Deborah Lippman 80s Rewind, deborah lippman summer 2014, deborah lippman murale

Deborah Lippmann 80s Rewind Collection ($20 ea, available May 2014), Maniac pictured above – Oh, how I love me some bold, bright colours.  The upcoming Deborah Lippmann 80s Rewind collection is exactly what you would expect – colourful and non-apologetic.  And with shades that have names like Don’t Stop Believing, Video Killed the Radio Star and Walking on Sunshine, how could you go wrong?

Nest Midnight Fleur, Nest fragrance, Nest Murale, Nest fragrance Murale, Murale spring 2014

Nest Eau de Parfum ($118, now available) – The three EDPs now available at Murale are very unique.  The beautifully dark, decorated bottles definitely stand out, while the fragrance blends in each take on different moods.  The Midnight Fleur Eau de Parfum (pictured above) is a sultry scent that combines exotic woods, patchouli and black amber with notes of night-blooming jasmine and vanilla orchid.
