I’m a big fan of combining matte and shimmery shades in an eye look, so this palette instantly gave me a good feeling. It’s also a really nice all-encompassing palette with more neutral shades that cover a range of shadows; cool pewters, warm rosy shades and sunny bronze hues all fit together into this 12 shade palette, allowing for you to mix and match depending on your mood.
The top two rows of shadows are all matte, while the bottom two rows have a shimmery finish. The matte shadows apply really smoothly, though I was a little disappointed with the shades in the top row; they didn’t have very much pigmentation and didn’t show up very well on my skin, either wet or dry (as you’ll see in the following swatches). The second row did have a lot more colour to it, and these shadows make for a great base shade. The shimmery shades are so rich and pigmented that I don’t really mind all that much. They look gorgeous on, and when applied wet, the colour is so metallic and bold that it’s hard to look away.
First column, applied dry on left and wet on right. From L-R: Vintage, Fringe, Bohemian, Smolder
Second column, applied dry on left and wet on right. From L-R: Velvet, Suede, Retro, Sizzle
Third column, applied dry on left and wet on right. From L-R: Feathered, Velour, Sequin, Flare
The palettes were also designed to make creating an eye look really simple. Follow the columns for a set of four shadows that come together for a harmonious look, and adjust intensity as you see fit. The bottom shades also make a great liner with a ton of impact, especially when applied wet!
After the weather we’ve been having for the past couple of weeks in Toronto, I’m ready to call it a day and move down south. I may still have a few weeks to go until I can spend some time in the sunshine, but I decided to start getting ready early & give you a little warm weather inspo. I recently made a visit to Dixie Outlet Mall to pick up some Spring Break Essentials – let’s check them out!
Of course, when it comes to spring break, spending some quality time on the beach is always key. I love a good pair of jean shorts ($12 – for real – at Boathouse) for wearing to the beach; they’re comfortable and look cute over a bathing suit! A pair of cute shades is always a must-have as well. I managed to score an amazing deal on these heart-shaped sunnies (on sale for $6 at Aldo) that give me major Riverdale vibes.
Of course, a cute bathing suit is basically the uniform of spring break, and I fell in love with this one from Ardene (I picked up the matching set for only $9). It has this retro feel to it that I adore, and has a really great fit. Who knew you could pick up an amazing bathing suit at such a great price?
To finish off my casual daytime wear, I found these fantastic Montego Bay sandals from Payless ($15) that can be worn on the beach or out for drinks later on! The gold and white straps add a really nice feel to these.
When it comes to spring break essentials, I also like to pack a fun nighttime look that’s perfect for dinner along the beach or dancing all night with a margarita in hand. This romantic romper from Winners ($25, compared at $40) was the perfect choice for this; I can’t wait to wear it for drinks at my favourite spot in Costa Rica next month! And of course, the perfect outfit deserves the perfect shoes, so I decided to splurge a little with this gorgeous pair from Call It Spring ($60). They’re really light and the wedge makes them super comfortable, which makes wearing them for a few hours that much more bearable.
What do you bring along when you go on a spring break vacay?

Spring is here, which means it’s time for a refresh of my skincare. I’m always looking for new products to keep my skin in great shape, and right now I have a few that I’m absolutely loving! Read on to find out what they are.
It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for a good sheet mask, so I was excited when I saw the new Avon Anew Brightening Sheet Masks ($25 CAD for 4). Avon has really surprised me with the quality of their products & new releases over the past few years, and this sheet mask was no different. The mask was formulate with white pearl essence which has been used in Asian countries for years for its brightening properties. This mask makes for a great quick pick-me-up and leaves my skin feeling refreshed and more radiant.
I just love a good drugstore find. With the price of some palettes these days getting pretty hefty, I love having a combination of luxury and more budget-friendly picks in my makeup bag; it helps to keep both my wallet and my makeup-loving self happy. The COVERGIRL truNaked Jewels palette ($12.97 CAD) definitely fits into this category, and I’ll tell you why.
First of all, I love a palette that has a bit of colour in it – bolder shadows are always great for mixing into eye looks and for having a bit of fun. This palette has a selection of 8 shadows, including a range of matte, shimmer and sparkly shades. It has a few lighter shades (that are perfect if you’ve ever wanted to be a unicorn princess; hell, who hasn’t?), two bold, pigmented hues (blue and purple), shimmering gold and green shades and a sparkly black.
I really wish that I could have more accurately captured the first shade; it’s hard to see here, but it has this beautiful iridescent look to it with splashes of light pink in the light. It’s a gorgeous highlighting shade that I will definitely be using with other palettes and looks.
The shadows have nice pigment to them, and several shades that make for great highlighting (see the 1st, 3rd and 7th shadows). They are really blendable and build up to heavier colour if needed. They do tend to fade a bit throughout the day, so I suggest starting with a primer and finishing with a setting spray to ensure longer wear.
The shimmer in a few of the shadows is gorgeous – nice and soft, bringing a bit of a multi-tone look to them, which I love. The boldness of the purple and blue shadows also make them favourites for me; I can definitely see myself using them to add depth to many different looks.
What do you think of the COVERGIRL truNaked Jewels palette? Do you have any other jewel tones you like?

I love Marc Jacobs eyeliners. The richness of the colour and longevity of wear makes them among my faves when it comes to this category. So, naturally I found myself excited by a new offering from MJ in this category. How do the new Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliners ($25 USD/$31 CAD) live up to my expectations?
Well, let’s just say they’ve really hit the nail on the head with this one. First of all, I’m a big fan of matte liner, which means these are right up my alley. They maintain a beautiful matte finish while providing a creamy, smooth application; the eyeliner glides right onto the skin without any creasing. The formula definitely sets quite quickly, so do any smudging immediately after application. After setting, this liner stays put and LASTS – it’s waterproof and locks into place. After swatching & setting, I rubbed at the lines with my fingers, fabric and tissues and ran them under water and was really impressed by how well they held up. They’re perfect for creating a bold look or using in the waterline.
[Swatched from L-R: (Earth)quake, (Brown)ie, (Iron)y, Over(night), (Grape)vine, (Fine)wine, Out of the Blue, Whirl(pool), (Pop)ular, Mist Me?, Deja Blue, Pink of Me]
When it comes to colour, it really doesn’t get any better than this. The line is currently available in 12 shades inspired by the Marc Jacobs’ Resort Collection, and features a selection of deeper shades as well as some bolder colours which are perfect for creating a graphic lid. I’m super impressed by the bold, rich pigments in the liners.
Overall, the long staying power and bold pigmentation of the Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliners make these a total win for me and an easy addition to my eyeliner collection; I’m extremely impressed by the formula and feel and will definitely be keeping these in regular rotation.
Will you be trying these eyeliners out? What are your fave matte liners?
