Sure, when we hit a certain point in our life we all want to look younger. Some of us will go to extreme measures to try to recapture some of our youthful looks, but the thing is, we don’t necessarily need to. A few weeks ago, I had the chance to spend some time with Nivea to learn about the smile study they recently conducted, the results of which might be a little surprising!
The study, which surveyed 2,000 participants, showed images of 12 different females in 3 distinct emotional states (happy, neutral and sad). After taking a look at the results, it was shown that the average age guessed when shown the smiling photos was just under 2 and a quarter years under the subject’s actual age. Guess it doesn’t hurt to keep a smile on your face, right?
Louisa Jewell, President of the Canadian Positive Psychology Association explains: “In general, we perceive smiling faces as more attractive and we therefore tend to judge them as younger than they actually are. Studies show that facial expressions can have a significant impact on the accuracy of age estimation. People with smiling faces also appear more sincere, sociable, likeable, and competent.”
And hey, if you want a little extra help, the Nivea Q10plus line contains energy coenzyme Q10 and creatine (similar to that found in the skin) to help fight back against the signs of aging. Last year, they came out with the Q10plus Anti-Wrinkle Serum Pearls ($19.99 CAD) which is absolutely amazing. The silky serum, which has a really light, fresh scent, blends effortlessly into the skin to help boost anti-aging and regeneration in the skin. Pair it with the Q10plus Anti-Wrinkle Day Care & Night Care ($19.99 CAD each) – and a smile – for more youthful-looking skin with a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.
