How do you feel about nail art? I’m totally into this fun way to express yourself and your style through your nails. Sure, the canvas is small, but your nails can say a ton about you. With an unlimited number of options available, it’s easy to customize your nails to suit your look, play along with an event, or take advantage of the latest trends!
For a nail art addict like myself, Shoppers Drug Mart is heaven on Earth. With polishes and tools from amazing brands like Essie, Ceramic Glaze and Sally Hansen available in one convenient spot, a world of options is literally at your fingertips. I’m willing to admit that I’ve personally spent hours perusing this section of the store, checking out the latest shades and finishes – I’ve ended up with a polish collection that would make a salon owner envious.
This spring and summer is all about colour for the nails. When it comes to figuring out what nail art looks I would like to create, I like to draw inspiration from the latest fashion and beauty trends, as well as classic seasonal looks. I love checking out all of the latest designer collections at the various Fashion Weeks from around the world to see cool patterns that I can translate into fun designs – the cruise and resort collections are always a huge inspiration for me with their bold prints and fun use of colours. I also love to take inspiration from sights and themes of the season. I love using floral motifs (bright & pastel colours are so fun!), beachy hues (think beautiful blues and sandy taupes) and fun things like ice cream cones and watermelon – you can pull nail art inspiration from anything!
I love the fact that anyone can try nail art as well. It can be intricate and detailed, like drawing beautiful patterns or tiny images on your nails. These require a lot of patience and practice, but once you get to this point you can create gorgeously unique manis! Not a pro or just getting started? There are tons of other looks you can try that don’t require as much skill. The “Painted Love” mani I’ve created here is perfect for someone who is just getting into nail art. I love that it has a bit of an abstract flower garden look to it! I started off by prepping the nails with Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat before applying two coats of Essie Blanc for a white base colour. I then created a fun abstract pattern by dry brushing (be sure to wipe off most of the polish from the brush so it doesn’t blob on the nails) Misslyn Scandalous, Ceramic Glaze Santorini Blue and Ceramic Glaze Watermelon Cooler in random spots over the nail. Finally, I locked in the polish with a coat of Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat.
