Have you ever had any special moments involving scent? Maybe you’ve found a perfume that reminds you of a special memory, or you’ve smelled something that brings you right back to an amazing adventure. Last month, I was invited to sit down to lunch with Downy Infusions and Sue Phillips, international scent expert, to learn more about unleashing the power of scent and what it really means to us.
When I arrived at the lunch on a chilly November day, I couldn’t wait to learn more about how scent really affects us and what it has the power to do. We were able to get right into it, starting with sharing our own unique experiences with fragrance. I was really amazed at the intense connection that scent has the ability to create with memories as our stories were shared around the table. I personally had one that immediately came to mind. Earlier this year, I tried out a sample of a perfume and was shocked at how it brought up memories from when I was a little girl. I couldn’t have been more than 5 years old at the time, but I remembered playing with a little green perfume bottle that my mom used to use. It was such a small moment but it came back so strongly the second I smelled this fragrance. After hearing everyone’s stories, I really found it interesting to see just how strongly linked to our memories certain scents can be, bringing back rushes of experiences in an instant! We were also able to take a scent personality quiz to determine which scents appeal to us the most based on our lifestyle preferences (I wasn’t surprised to find that the floral family of scents was at the top of my list), before taking some time to smell all of the difference fragrance notes available that all come in to play to create the fragrances we love – including those that make the Downy Infusions and Downy Unstopables such a unique part of a washing routine!
Afterward, I received a set of the Downy Infusions fabric softeners and Downy Unstopables In-Wash Scent Boosters (I’ve had serious love for these ever since they hit the market) to play with. With a variety of scents, these make the perfect pair to add some amazing scent to your laundry. The Downy Infusions add great scent to your clothes, sheets and towels, while the Down Unstopables take it to a whole other level. These scent beads are thrown right into the washer with your clothes so the scent “melts” right into your wash for laundry that smells so, so good. I’ve been mixing and matching to find my favourite combinations, and my sheets have never smelled better! I’ve stumbled upon a couple of pairings that I can’t get enough of: Infusions in Cashmere Glow & Unstopables in Spring, and Infusions in Honey Flower & Unstopables in Shimmer. Mixing these together with a load of clothes makes me so happy afterward – the beautiful smell is so lovely, and I almost feel like I don’t need to wear perfume when I wear something that has just been washed with these. Not to mention, going to sleep in sheets that have used on of my favourite combos or stepping out of the shower into a towel that smells amazing has such a relaxing effect.
I really enjoyed having the chance to learn more about the power of scent – after finding out more about the different fragrance families and how closely linked to your memories these scents really are, I was really blown away by how much it comes into play in our lives. I also have to admit, I’m hooked on the Downy Infusions and Unstopables lines. I’ve always loved trying out different products to help my laundry smell amazing, and am so happy these have come into my life… I can now confidently say I have the best smelling laundry around.
