DIY Detox Facial Mask

Now that the holidays are (partially) over, I’m sure your skin has taken a bit of a beating.  Between all of the food, drinks and late nights, the holidays aren’t necessarily easy on your skin, which is why I wanted to bring you an at-home face mask recipe that will help to detox your skin, tighten your pores and moisturize so that you can get back to your regular glowing self.  This DIY Skin Detox Facial Mask is very easy to make, and you probably have all or most of the ingredients needed for it in your kitchen already.  So whip one of these babies up, relax, and throw on Love, Actually – it’s time to reclaim your beautiful skin.

– 1/3 cup Oatmeal

– 1 Banana

– 2 tbsp Honey

– 2 tbsp Yogurt

– Half a Lemon

Combine the oatmeal with warm water (about half a cup) and allow to settle for 2-3 minutes.  Mix in the honey, yogurt, juice from half a lemon and the mashed banana until blended.  Apply to your face and allow to set for about 10-15 minutes so it can work its magic.  Rinse off with warm water, pat dry and follow up with your favourite moisturizer.

One tip – when rinsing this mask off, be careful not to overload your drain or use a strainer to catch the oatmeal – beautiful skin is nice but a clogged drain is not!

I’ll have to try it, I love DIY masks. I’ve started using a turmeric and honey mask and have been really liking that (minus the staining, but that is only temporary). It has been clearing my breakouts and reducing scars and my skin has been much softer and brighter. I’ve read that Indian brides use a turmeric and chickpea flour mask before their wedding, so I picked up some of the flour today to try.

    • Good to know! I’ll have to give this a try as well!

  • I need to try this! I want to start exploring more DIYs (for beauty) in the New Year. I’m sure my pantry and fridge are well stocked with beauty ingredients ad I don’t even realize it.

This is something I will definitely try but will cut back on lemon as my skin is sensitive. I drink 8+ glasses of water per day to help detox my skin.
