DIY Avocado Beauty Treatments with #LuvMexAvocado

Last week I got an invitation to attend an event with an unusual theme – Avocados from Mexico.  Intrigued (and of course because the event was being held at the amazing Leeanne Colley’s TIPS Nail Bar, which I’m in love with), my BBF Sandra (Mom’s Makeup Stash) and I knew we had to stop by to check it out.  Once there we were greeted by “Miss Avacado” and beauty expert Janine Falcon who was to be our host for the evening.

We got to indulge in some yummy treats that all featured avocados (I was pleasantly surprised to see them being used in so many creative ways) and then were whisked away by some of Leanne’s nail experts to receive a soothing avocado hand treatment.  The treatment – in all its squishy, green goodness – was massaged in and left on for about 10 minutes so that it could penetrate the skin and get to work.  It really had a nice calming feel to it and left my hands feeling refreshed and very much pampered.  Read on to learn about this and other DIY Avocado Beauty Treatments that you can easily make at home, and to find out some interesting facts about avocados and their properties.  My suggestion?  Invite a few friends over and have an avocado themed spa night.

Enriching Hair Mask

“When applied to hair, avocado, egg yolk and olive oil act as humectants; they trap in moisture and the hair shafts soak up the nourishment they need”

Ingredients:

– 1 egg yolk

– 1/2 teaspoon olive oil

Preparation:

In shallow bowl, mash avocado until smooth.  Add egg yolk and olive oil; stir until combined.  Divide dry hair into sections.  With hands, apply mixture to hair by massaging into each section, concentrating on the ends.  Allow to set for 30 minutes.  Rinse with warm water.

And now for a lesson in beauty – here are some fun facts about avocados and their properties:

– Avocados are nutrient-dense and contain highly coveted unsaturated oils that can penetrate deep skin tissue for optimum absorption and superior moisturizing

– Avocados contain almost 20 essential nutrients such as folic acid, vitamin E, vitamin K, a variety of B vitamins, protein, and iron

– Because they are packed with nutrients including vitamin E, eating avocados helps keep skin moisturized

– I know Janine would be upset if I didn’t mention this one – Avocados are jam packed with BIOTIN!  This is a great supplement for healthy skin, hair and nails

Have you ever tried adding avocado to any beauty treatments?
